Grab your furry best friend and get comfy as we share our guide on essential oils for dogs.
How do I apply essential oils to my dog?
Since dogs are highly sensitive to essential oils it’s best to gradually introduce oils by patch testing them on a small area before using them fully. For puppies, avoid topical oils and for medium or large breed puppies, wait until they’re over 8 weeks old. And the general rule for toy or small-breed puppies is, wait until they’re over 10 weeks old. Once you use essential oils, play close attention to little Lulu’s behaviour. If unsure, ask your local veterinarian for advice.
Should I ask a vet?
It’s helpful to ask a vet, discussing your pet’s personal condition. Getting their tips will ensure you’re confident when using essential oils. If your furry friend has underlying issues, it’s good to get more information.
Applying essential oils topically
Applying topically means applying the product onto your pet’s body. When you’re ready to give Teddy some tender loving care, dilute those drops with V-6® Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex. Refer to the bottle for dilution instructions.
Speaking of dilution, did you know that our Animal Scents® oils come prediluted? Even though this carefully crafted essential oil is gentle, you may still want to dilute further using your preferred carrier oil. Keep an eye on how your pet responds and apply accordingly.
Ready to spoil your furry friend? Rub the oil and carrier oil between your palms until your hands are no longer shiny. Rub over your pet’s back, on the belly, and behind the ears. Take extra care to avoid the eyes!
