With concerns about the spread of viruses, it’s easy to forget that the basics may be your best defence, bringing peace of mind in the care for your health and wellbeing.

It’s in each of our hands to be conscientious of the part we play in preventing the spread of germs by how we take care of ourselves and our community.

When you have the right plant-based tools, keeping clean doesn’t need to include harsh synthetic chemicals. Simple measures with the right information and quality resources can empower us all to stay well.

Keep it easy with three tips for staying well.

  1. Prevention: get back to basics

Washing your hands is one of the best ways to help prevent the spread of seasonal germs like cough and cold viruses.

1 in 5 respiratory infections, such as a cold, can be prevented by handwashing.

Handwashing can reduce respiratory illnesses, like colds, by 16-21% in the general population. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

As creatures of convenience, being armed with the right tools at the right time ensures you can keep surfaces and hands CLEAN at home or on-the-go!

  • Wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds (that’s the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end, twice). Lather and scrub the back of your hands, between fingers and under your nails! If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand purifier.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbows, and avoid touching your face, mouth, eyes or nose without clean hands.
  • Spray down surfaces and frequently touched objects (like shopping cart handles, doorknobs, remotes, tables, etc.).

Preventative measures are your first line of defence to staying well.

  1. Relief: cough and cold

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we may still get sick. When cough and cold hits, it’s important to take care and be intentional about your recovery.

Keep hydrated!

Make sure to drink lots of water and fluids to help replace fluids lost and loosen mucus.
