Our Natural Fragrance Base Kit contains a natural solubilizer and a natural preservative that are used in conjunction to create a natural fragrance base for creating a natural, 100% pure fragrance using Young Living essential oils.

What is a natural solubilizer? It is a cosmetic ingredient that helps blend very small amounts of oils into aqueous formulations. It works on the same principle as an emulsifier by mixing two immiscible ingredients.

What is a Natural Preservative? A preservative is a substance that is added to products to prevent decomposition by microbial growth or by undesirable changes. Natural preservatives come from organic matter.

Ingredients: Dehydroacetic Acid (DHA) and Benzyl Alcohol.

Make a Fragrance

Creating a natural fragrance is a fascinating – and sometimes complex – process that involves blending different aromatic ingredients to create a unique and undeniably charming scent. While the process can seem daunting, with the right tools, knowledge and instructions, anyone can learn to create their very own safe and natural fragrance.

What you need:

1. Small Glass Dish/Bowl
2. Syringe (5ml)
3. Small Wooden Stick/Utensil
4. Distilled Water (50ml) – not Mineral or Alkaline
5. Preservative (3 drops)
6. Solubilizer (3ml)
7. Paper Towels
8. Essential Oils – Top, Middle and Base notes of your choice
9. YL Branded Fragrance Bottle (50ml)

Step 1

Add 3ml of Young Living Solubilizer to your glass dish/bowl.

Step 2

In the same glass dish/bowl, add your chosen essential oils.

– First add your Base Note(s)

– Then add your Middle Note(s)

– Then add your Top Note(s)

Step 3

Using your tiny wooden stick/utensil, very slowly stir the mixture of the Young Living solubilizer and Young Living essential oils. Do this for 3 minutes until the mixture is emulsified i.e., well combined. Your mixture should have a honey-like consistency.

FUN FACT! The word ‘emulsion’ describes a mixture of two liquids that do not fully combine. An emulsion may look like a single liquid, but it’s made up of particles of one liquid distributed throughout another liquid.

Step 4

Slightly tilt your glass dish/bowl and then slowly add 5ml of distilled water – making sure to let the distilled water flow along the sides into the mixture. This will prevent bubbles from forming.

Step 5

Place the bowl upright and then very slowly start to mix all the elements together for 2 minutes. Notice the colour will change to a milky colour – this is normal as you are working with pure and natural ingredients that have no added variables.

Step 6

Add the remaining 45mls of distilled water to the mixture and stir well for 2 minutes. At this stage, bubbles might form – this is also normal.

Step 7

Now, take your Young Living Preservative and add exactly 3 drops to the mixture. Stir mixture for 10 seconds.

Step 8

Using the 5ml syringe, syphon your Young Living fragrance mixture into the 50ml fragrance bottle.

Step 9

Seal the fragrance bottle and voila – YOU HAVE MADE YOUR VERY OWN NATURAL FRAGRANCE!
