Essential oils are an investment in your health and well-being. Learning the dos and don’ts of storing them is just one important way to protect your wellness investment and maximize their benefits.
How to properly store essential oils
Whether you’ve just jumped into essential oils or have a longtime collection you’ve been meaning to organize, these tips for properly storing your favorite products will keep your house happy and your health prioritized!
Keep the bottle lids on tight
A tight lid prevents oxidation, air, or water from getting inside the bottle.
- Less contact with air allows the oil to retain its properties. Frequent and prolonged exposure to air can alter the consistency, smell, and properties of the oil.
- Closing lids tightly also stops oil from evaporating.
YL tip: The plastic fitment on the bottle allows the oil to escape one drop at a time and also helps keep air and water out. Be sure to leave it on the bottle!

Avoid heat and direct sunlight
- Too much heat or sunlight can impact the quality of the oil.
- Both heat and sunlight can change the chemical composition of the oil.
- Too much heat can cause the oil to evaporate more quickly, making it less effective.
- Too much sun can deteriorate the oil.
YL tip: Keep essential oils in a closet or drawer and avoid leaving them in your car. A good rule of thumb is to keep oils in a cool, dark place.

Get your questions answered
Have questions about storing your oils, keeping the quality consistent over time, and getting the most out of each little bottle? Here are some frequently asked questions:
1. Can you keep essential oils in the fridge?
Some essential oil lovers swear by putting their oils in the fridge. It isn’t so much the lower temperature that matters—oils do not need to be kept that cold—but the consistent climate. Your fridge stays the same temperature day and night, which helps preserve the oil. If you don’t want your oil to be cold when you use it, be sure to remove it about 1–2 hours before you’ll need it so the oil can return to room temperature. Once you’re finished using the oil, put it back in the fridge so it can return to a consistent temperature.
2. Is it okay to freeze essential oils?
Putting essential oils in the freezer is perfectly safe. The consistent temperature and lack of light will help to preserve your oils. There are some oils—like Rose, Thyme, and others—that may have natural components that solidify or crystallize in the freezer. If your oils do this, simply allow them to thaw before you use them by keeping them at room temperature. Once you’re finished with them, return them to your freezer to store.

3. Can essential oils be stored in plastic bottles?
Essential oils are incredibly powerful, which means that many oils will dissolve plastic. For this reason, it’s recommended to keep oils in glass bottles or stainless-steel containers. Keep this in mind when you make essential oil-based DIYs like DIY body spray or facial toner.
4. Do essential oils need dark bottles?
You’ll notice that all Young Living essential oils come in amber bottles. That’s to protect them from light, which can alter their delicate composition. We recommend always storing your essential oils in dark or opaque bottles to preserve their quality.
5. Do essential oils expire?
Essential oils don’t expire in the traditional sense. When stored properly, essential oils can last for years. But because of a process called oxidation, which begins the moment you open your bottle and expose the oil to the air, oils will gradually change over time. Following the suggestions mentioned above—storing oils in dark bottles, keeping them out of the sun, and storing them at room or cool temperatures—will help prolong the lifespan of your oils. Read this article to learn more about essential oil oxidation and expiration.

I was wondering if the YL Roller Ball blends expire?
Hi Nancy, Specific shelf life information for those blends that contain carrier oils has yet to be determined as we are in the process of further improving our industry-leading product testing processes. We apologize we are unable to provide specific shelf life information as it is currently under review. However, we can tell you that past testing results showed that the blends which contain carrier oils are considered safe and effective for use for at least two to three years. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
I would like to use some of my Young Living Oils in a Scent Ball Plug in Aromatherapy Electric Room Diffuser. Do you have a list of oil that will not be at risk of catching fire while plugged in? I hear that some oils have a low heat tolerance and could be at risk of causing a fire when being used in combination with a plug in.
Hi LJ, As we do not carry this device we do not have information regarding which essential oils are compatible with it. Moreover, we do not recommend using essential oils in devices that will heat the oil as we cannot guarantee that the therapeutic compounds will remain intact. Instead we would suggest using a cold air or ultrasonic diffuser. Young Living’s selection of cold air and ultrasonic diffusers can be viewed on our website here. I store my oils in a bathroom cabinet which is next to the shower. Will the change of bathroom temperature due to the hot water running seep into the cabinet and cause the oils to spoil?
Hi Sarah, Essential oils should be sealed tightly and stored upright in a cool, dark, dry location. Cool temperatures should be considered near room temperature at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. You will also want to make sure that the oils are stored in a location where they will be kept safe from fluctuations in temperature. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
Wondering what the shelf life of orange, lemon, and other citrus oils are. I was told about a year
Hi Mary Jo, Great question. Young Living’s essential oils do not expire and will maintain their integrity, efficacy, and beneficial properties virtually indefinitely, provided they are stored properly in a dark-glass bottle, upright and tightly sealed, out of sunlight, and in cool temperatures. Thanks for stopping by!
I have a question! I take capsules for my Lymes disease and I use oregeno oil in them. I recently ordered them and I think I left it in my car on a hot day…I have still been using it and it smells really weird. Doesn’t even really smell a whole lot like oregeno anymore. Should I be taking it? Will it harm me?
Hi Allison, UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the constituents of the oils, and heat and light combined will affect them even more quickly. If the oil has been sitting in a hot car for a few hours, but the oil has not been directly exposed to UV light, the efficacy will not be compromised. Essential oils should be sealed tightly and stored upright in a cool, dark, dry location. Cool temperatures should be considered near room temperature at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. You will also want to make sure that the oils are stored in a location where they will be kept safe from fluctuations in temperature. Thanks for stopping by!
Can they be stored in the refrigerator?
Hi Glyna, We do not recommend storing essential oils in the refrigerator. Essential oils should be sealed tightly and stored upright in a cool, dark, dry location. Cool temperatures should be considered near room temperature at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. You will also want to make sure that the oils are stored in a location where they will be kept safe from fluctuations in temperature. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
Hello :)
i just wondering if i accidentally leaving few bottles oil out and having direct sun light on the essential oil for an hour ( i think )
will the oil turn bad? as i read those
” are directly exposed to UV light, the efficacy of the oils will be compromised.”
what is that meaning of?
“Sunlight and other kinds of radiation can lower the frequency and compromise the potency”
Please let me know what kind more the information ?
will those oils turn bad? can not use it direct on the skin after been out direct to the Sun?
I am a bit confusing >_<
Hi Jan, UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the constituents of the oils. The compounds within the essential oils may be lost due to evaporation when exposed to extreme heat and light. We would not be able to guarantee the efficacy of the essential oils as they have not been stored in a cool, dark environment.
I’m wondering how the oils are holding up during shipment in this extreme heat. I’ve had 3 shipments and I wonder if the oils composition has changed.
Hi SKL, Great question. UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the constituents of the oils, and heat and light combined will affect them even more quickly. If a package is delivered and sitting on the porch or in a car for several hours (or even a few days), but the oils are not directly exposed to UV light, the efficacy of the oils will not be compromised. If the oil is hot, cool it before using. Thanks for stopping by!
I have an almost full 15 ml bottle of Oregano oil for I don’t know how long – years, from when i was doing Raindrop Therapy regularly. It smells to me like Oregano oil should but since I would like to use it internally i’m wondering…what’s the significance of storing it upright in this situation? It’s been in a dark bottle in a drawer in a room temp space but not upright.
Hi Penelope, Great question. We recommend storing the oils in an upright position to prevent leaking or damage to the lid. As your Oregano oil has been stored in a dark, cool space it should be considered safe and effective for use. Thanks for stopping by!
I have found several of my kids splitting open at the top. I am wondering what I can do to prevent this? I hate to see my oils evaporating through the cracks in the white plastic lids.
Hi Sonya, Great question. The cracks in the essential oil bottle lids can be caused by turning the lid too much on the bottle and repeated flexing from opening and closing the oil bottle lids. Thanks for stopping by!
I have a question about the sample bottles – since they are plastic, how long can I store oils in them? Specifically wondering about lavender, citrus oils, and tea tree, but would appreciate info on general use as well.
Thanks!
Hi Jahnavi, Thanks for your question. The samples bottles Young Living® offers are made of glass and are perfect for making your own blends or storing oils to take on the go!
I have heard recently that essential oils should not be store by any electronics. I have looked in the reference book and a few other places but am not finding any more info. Can you help. Thanks
Hello Juliet, Great question. Essential oils can safely be in proximity to devices without any cause for concern. The therapeutic benefits of each essential oil are stable enough to withstand impulses emitted from electronic devices. Thanks for stopping by!
I have heard of people making premade capsules with their essential oils and then putting them in the freezer until they are ready to take them (to prevent from the capsule ‘melting’). Is this ok to do? Like prepare on Sunday all the capsules you need for the week, put them in the freezer, and take them as needed during the week? Thanks!
Hi Jordan, When preparing the capsules you would want to prepare them as needed for that day or they will begin to dissolve. Freezing the capsules may cause them to potentially burst or break. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
I know this is almost a year old, so hopefully someone will answer…
I need a larger case to hold oils. I have two 30 count cases…and need to buy another one. Over half of the bottles that I have are 15ml. I need someone who has purchase Premium display case and the Large Aroma Kit soft case…and tell me if there is a way to put the 15ml in a 5ml spot. I know what the description says…but I need to know if anyone has tried. The 30 count case says only 5ml…but I get those 15 in there. Would like to know if I can do the same with the soft case.
Hi Heather, Thank you for your question. The Aroma Kit Soft Case-Burgundy is meant to only hold 5 ml bottles. However, our Premium Display Oil Case can hold 13 15-ml bottles as well as 124 5-ml bottles, 3 10-ml roll-on bottles and has 6 spaces for 5-ml bottles that have a child-resistant cap. Thanks for stopping by!
I use essential oils for my horses, and I was wondering if it would be alright if I kept my oils in a cupboard in the barn all year long? In Wisconsin, the winters are usually freezing (the barn is heated), and the summers are fairly hot (the barn usually stays below the temps outside).
Hi Brianna, Great question!
Hey there, I just got my starter kit and am going to use grapeseed and coconut for carrier oils. How should I store my mixes? I have plastic containers and was wondering if that would work?
Hi Stephanie, It is advised that you store essential oils in their original containers. However, if you decide to mix oils or store them in different containers, we recommend using dark colored glass. We do not recommend storing undiluted essential oils in plastic containers. Many essential oils are incompatible with plastic material. Using a PETE or PP plastic bottle can help, but we recommend switching to glass or stainless steel if you would like to use the same bottle for extended periods of time.
I just started using essential oil. I bought the starter kit and I’m addicted!!! Now I want to make sure I have it everyday. I’ve been thinking of ways to transport 2 bottles of 5ml essential while traveling. The smallest carrier YL has is a 10 bottle carrier. So this weekend I decided to use a hard eyeglass case and a small handkerchief to pad the bottles (I’d say tissue paper would work, too.) It worked great. So the next thing I did was buy a very small diffuser for traveling. I have yet to try that one. Thank you! I love my YL EOs!!!
Is there a danger when the oils get too cold? Here in Austria/Europe we have temperatures of minus 10 degrees centigrade over days, and what if the shipment service let the parcel sit in the cold?
Hi Agnes, Low temperatures will not negatively impact your essential oils. However, the cold may cause some oils to thicken or congeal. Placing the bottle in warm water or rolling it in between your hands will help the oil to liquefy again. In addition, citrus oils may become cloudy when cold, but this occurs naturally and you may continue to use them as usual.
I live in AZ and I am wondering about the shipping in are summer heat? Will the integrity of the ils be spoiled when shipped at 115 degrees on some days?
Hi Toni, UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the constituents of the oils. Prolonged exposure to heat and UV light will cause the oil constituents to change or diminish. If a package is exposed to heat while in transit or delivered and sitting on the porch or in a mailbox, but the oils are inside the package and not directly exposed to UV light, the efficacy of the oils will not be compromised.
I currently use the largest Young living case which holds 130 oils, I carry them to work each day. I would love to have a case that holds this many oils in one of the newer style cases as I feel the largest case is outdated in its style. I find the foam insert moves inside the case therefore I am not able to use the inserts around the edges. Will they be bringing in a newer design large oil case soon, as I need another? 😊
Hi Melissa, Thank you for your question. Please visit https://www.youngliving.com/us/en/product/premier-aroma-collection to check out our Premium Display 140 case now available. Thank you for stopping by!
Does Young Living sell amber glass bottles to be able to make my own mix? I don’t know where to find them at.
Hi Debbie, You can purchase Essential Oil Sample Bottles from Young Living here: https://www.youngliving.com/us/en/product/essential-oil-sample-bottles. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
I keep my oils in a closet that is dark and cool. I use the dark amber bottles for my blends. I was wondering if there is a specific temperature that is best for the oils?
Hi Connie, Thanks for stopping by with your question. A cool temperature for essential oil storage is considered around room temperature at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. You will also want to make sure that the oils are stored in a location where they will be kept safe from fluctuations in temperature.
I was wondering, I have heard a lot of different stories about shelf life for essential oils. How long do YL oils usually last if not opened? How long do they usually last if opened and stored properly?
Thank you for your help.
Great questions Jackie.
Should citrus oils be stored in the refrigerator to help extend their shelf life?
Hi Tina, Citrus essential oils should be stored properly in a dark-glass bottle, upright and tightly sealed, out of sunlight, and in cool temperatures. We recommend cool temperature over refrigeration as the oils may be exposed to moisture in the fridge. Thanks for your question!
Wondering: If cooking, painting, other oils can become rancid, why not essential oils? I understand the brown bottle for protection from UV, but what about regular room temp. My eatable oils I always store in the fridge because in the past they have gone rancid in the pantry. Thanks!
Hi Deanna, According to our internal testing and validation, our therapeutic grade, plant-based essential oils do not degrade or lose their vital constituents if stored properly in a dark-glass bottle, upright and tightly sealed, out of sunlight, and in cool temperatures. We hope this information is helpful to you!
My A/C is out. Am I better off leaving the oils out or putting in the refrigerator?
Hi Margaret, Great question! For your situation we recommend storing your oils in a dry, dark location with the bottles sitting upright. Thanks for stopping by!
I keep my oils in a box w/a lid on my dresser so I can grab them daily as I need them. I keep brand new, unopened bottles (extras of my fave oils) on the shelf in my master closet. When I am on the go and need to carry oils in my purse, I grab my Vera Bradley bag and pop my CDWO’s in there and zip it and pop it in my purse. I also keep a few bottles of oils in the storage cabinet in the guest bath so that I can get the diffuser going first thing every morning to keep my guest bath smelling clean and fresh all day!
Does YL sell a case that will hold both the 5 ml and 15 ml bottles?
Yes, Lisa. The 10 Oil Cases, available in Green, Blue and Fuchsia, can hold both the 5 ml and 15 ml bottle sizes.
I never leave home without my 5ml oils from my original kit when I joined almost 2 yrs ago! I just refill the little bottles, it enables one to share when out and about as a need arises. I also keep a little iced cooler in my car in case I need to leave them in the car. Great to put left over lunch in too! Love my oils!
Love this idea, Kathy!
I have a YL case with the capacity to hold the 30 bottles. I also ordered a 36 case from Abundant Health. You have your choice of 3 different foam inserts. The one I have will fit 5,15 or 30 ml bottles. I have all my 15ml bottles in it & my roller bottles.
Love them. But I have to order another because both of these are full.
I was wondering about the quality of the oil after shipping in the hot summer months. It is nice to know that as long as it is not exposed to the UV rays, they should be fine. After receiving my oils, I try to keep them at home at room temperature, but I plan on investing in a carrying case soon to have them with me on the go.
Love my 30 bottle YL case!! What would be really nice is a case of the same style that would hold the 15ml bottles!! I like having separate cases for single oils and blends. Over 90% of the oils I order are for personal use, so a 30 bottle case for 15ml bottles would be nice for keeping them organized.
I have the 30 bottle case and the 15 ml bottles do fit in it as well. It does stretch the foam a little but it goes back to its old shape if you put a 5ml bottle in there
I don’t have a favorite type of case, because I have a 30 oil case, 2- 10 oil cases and even a 16 oil soft . :-) And they are all full…. I’m already in need of another case. I will buy soon.. :-) Probably another blue 30 oil case. I keep all the oil blends that I have made by me, stored in purple frosted roller 10 ml bottles, with my sprays in blue frosted spray bottles carefully stored on a shelf in my bedroom in a very low lit area… :-) I love all my cases.. And DEFINATELY my Young Living Essential Oils.. Won’t go with out them ever again… :-) Thank you, God Bless to all and Happy Oiling..
I love the 30 count soft sided travel bag, but would love to see a pocket on the inside or even the outside of the lid. I like to keep the info cards that are shipped with the oils to show to potential customers. However, now that I have more than a few they fall out all the time. I also carry the boxes of samplettes in my case that a pocket would make it more convenient.
I did see a nice bag that had pockets in it, but it wasn’t a YL product with a YL logo……
I currently keep my oils in an Igloo lunch bag. It’s about the size of a 6 pack of soda. It had a mesh pouch inside on the lid where I tend to keep notes and such. It also has a pocket on the outside where I keep some other materials. I have about 30+ oils in it of both the 5 & 15ml sizes as well as a dropper of carrier oil. I can also fit the EOPR in it. It keeps the oils at a nice temp and also in the dark. Works fine for me.
Here’s my big question: Are the oils compromised when they go through the X-ray in my carry-on bag at the airport? I once asked to have them hand checked. They gladly complied but it meant that EVERYTHING I brought had to be searched, including ME! I’ve asked YL customer service about the X-ray issue but got the response that it has not been researched. I’ve also wondered if orders are X-rayed by parcel carriers. These precious oils are such an investment, it’s a question that really needs to be researched.
Regarding the heat, I’d opt to pay the cost for an ice pack for parcel delivery, if that were available.
I agree with you Allison, an answer to that question is hard to come by and it is an important question. Hope we get one soon.
I use the tubes the oils are mailed in to transport them back and forth to work with me. I’m a massage therapist and I have a back pack I carry my sheets, oils and other essentials in. I think those card board tubes are great. They fit in my purse nicely too. I’m a big reuse, recycle type person though.
I would like to know too! My upline says she does not put them through the x-ray machine! I wouldn’t chance that for anything! I agree that there should be more information on this!
Hi Jennifer! It is unclear to what extent airport x-rays may or may not affect the properties of essential oils. If concerned, we would recommend alternate methods of sending your oils to your destination.
What a great idea. I’ll start doing this instead of tossing them. Thanks.
I absolutely love the train case style and wish we had something like that available. Like a caboodles case but taller for the oil bottles. I don’t like the idea of lying them on their side. Too precious to waste if they accidentally leaked! Right now I use a 3×5 black recipe box but it’s getting pretty full :/
I’m like you Andrea. I use recipe a recipe plastic box also. But I have 5 of those with a wooden box that sits handy in the house. The rest I store in containers. But to leave the house, I just use the little key chain YL pouch that holds sample bottles that I fill myself. When I travel I make sure to stack all of my oils neatly in the recipe boxes which I then place in an insulated zipper bag and add cold pasks to make sure they stay nice and cool. Don’t want to take any chances! #happyOILing!
How do you label the sample bottles!
I use sticky labels I purchased at Walmart . A pack is less than $2. You can find them in office supply section.
I use my Brother PTouch labeller. I use it for my classroom and home anyways and they stick nicely to the bottles but not too tightly that they are impossible to change later
I use preprinted labels from Abundant Health – at abundanthealth4u.com. They are made for Young Living oils and you can find blank labels there, too.
Our own Young Living labels work great by placing the sticker on the front of the sample bottle, not the cap. There’s plenty of room, and it looks pretty, too!
I have someone asking me about the temperatures. So if left in a car and gets really hot, you then need to bring to room temp? Is that right? Is it as effective at that point? What about the opposite? What does cold temps do?
If an essential oil is exposed to extreme heat conditions such as in a car, the main issue will be that the lighter molecules may more easily evaporate. You may wait for the oil to cool before use if you choose. If a heated bottle is opened, some of the lighter molecules may evaporate out, thus slightly changing the original ratios of components in the oil. However, please rest assured, the oil will still be considered beneficial.
Low temperatures will not damage or freeze your essential oils, but they may change their appearance. For example, rose oil may thicken or gel when it gets too cold; placing the bottle under warm water or rolling it in your hands will help the oil to liquefy again. Citrus oils may become cloudy when cold, but this occurs naturally and you may continue to use them as usual.
I would love to see you carry yl branded Keychain cases (for sample bottles)!
Love this idea :)
I carried my oils into a store & restaurant with me after convention (session A) because it was 103° in DFW yesterday but was really sad when I realized a small Lavender and small bottle of Ortho Ease were in a different bag in the hot trunk. 😢 I moved them to the other bag as soon as I realized it. Hope they weren’t hurt too badly. Thanks for the information.
Your oils will be fine after they’ve been in a hot car. Just don’t open them when they’re hot.
source: ‘Chemistry of Essential Oils’ by David Stewart, chapter 12, page 431
I recently traveled with grapefruit, lemon, and peppermint when I had a business meeting. Although the bottles were tightly sealed, after a few hours in the car the grapefuit had leaked all over. As a constant business traveler I am desperately looking for a good way to travel with my basics.
I believe having a container that will store them upright can make a difference in the risk of leaking. I have struggled with this myself.
I do use the smaller cases and when helping someone start up their use of oils, I treat them to the 10 bottle case as a welcome to Young Living Oils.
As a certifies aromatherapist, my full set of oils are needed as I go place to place to do therapy. I have the large 130 case (and do put 15ml bottles in it though you can’t get as many in it then. I then set that case in side a small travel suitcase on wheels for double protection and easing carrying place to place. (Would love a Young Living case on wheels that holds both 5ml and 15ml bottles as well as supplies, kind of like a pharmacy case.
Love that idea, Valerie!
I wish someone would make a case for roller bottles. I don’t carry many essential oils with me but I carry a lot of roller bottle blends. What do people use to keep them safe?
I make little pocket pouches for the oils and a bag for them to go in. Let me know if you are interested. I can also line the bag with plastic for an easy wipe off cleaning.
I custom make them to fit your style and needs.
Hi,
How big is your pouch case? Do you have a picture you could send me. I’d love a small one that holds around 6 bottles. How much do you charge?
Thanks!
Patty
How much and what size is the pouch?? Could you email information? Bhoffarth70@yahoo.com
I got my husband a hard leather cigar case to carry oils with him all the time. The roller bottles fit perfectly in it as well as the 5ml bottles. It has three channels so it holds his favs to carry in his suit jacket pocket for church, or his cargo shorts pockets the rest of the time. Even fits in his jeans pocket.
I got it at a cigar store, but you can probably find one online.
Here is a link to one similar to what I got.

I work in remote camps and the smaller 10 carry case is perfect for throwing in my backpack. I now have 2 of them that travel back and forth with me. They’re a perfect size, and in a pinch you can fit 14 bottles in each lol
I keep the 5ml bottles in my bag and refill them from the full size bottles when needed so I always have my favorites on hand.
I haven’t been able to find a storage case from YL, other than the smaller ones, that hold the 15 ml bottles. I bought the 30 bottle case but it only holds the 5 ml bottles. Most of the oils I buy only come in the 15 ml size. How about selling an insert for the case that will hold the 15 ml sized bottles?
Hi Cyndi…..believe it or not the case does hold 15 ml bottles!! You just have to twist the larger bottle into the hole, I know it does not seem like it would fit, but it does after some time of “forcing” it in, it will fit and will stretch a little and will go in easier after a while, the foam insert is made to fit the 5 ml and 15 ml bottles. I had the same problem when I first got my case :)
I pour the oils into the sample bottles that I got from YL when I use that particular oil often so that I won’t kept opening the EO bottle very often. As for traveling, I also do the same.
If I have oils that only come in 15 ml, I take an empty 5 ml bottle and put in that particular oil. You can get rectangle labels printed with all the YL oils on them as well as the circle lid labels.
I’d love to know the item number for the rectangle YL labels. Thank you!
I like the 30 count bag had room for all my favorites,
I have been curious about Leslie’s question also.
I love reading your blog. And I love the look of the Young Living Essential Oil cases on the outside, but I would also love to see a graphic of them on the inside too.
Hi Annie! Here’s an image of the inside of the 10-oil cases: https://www.flickr.com/photos/youngliving/17246808742/in/photolist-rkaY1E-pvAFDA-rZJXCM-sh3pnq-rZArCb-s4nkjG-eZYjNm-eJkoc5-eJgPps-dR1P7s-dR1Nhh-dQVf7r-dR1NnU-dQVeZ2-dQSwhw-dQSwTJ-dQLVcp-dPBLNw-dPvYLM-dxh2Re-a4KqGf-a4KAN5-85dbAG-85dagq-85d5xs-7Rsxnk-7RsxjM-7RvNFS-7RsxmF-8GCzXz-8GFRSj-8GCFRk-6iyfWF
What happens to them when they get really hot during shipping? Mine arrived and the bottles were super hot. It seems like that would ruin them right?
Thanks!
Leslie
I was wondering the same thing. If it is shipped during hot summer months. Mine have arrived hot as well! What should we do wait and order in spring and fall?
Hi Leslie! UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the constituents of the oils, and heat and light combined will affect them even more quickly. If a package is delivered and sitting on the porch for several hours (or even a few days), but the oils are not directly exposed to UV light, the efficacy of the oils will not be compromised. If the oil is hot, cool it before using. Prolonged exposure to light will cause the oil constituents to change or diminish.
If there is an oil that I want to carry with me at all times, I put a small amount of it in one of the little sample bottles and put that in my purse, and keep the full bottle at home. That way my ‘tool box’ is intact in one place.
We love this idea!
I do this as well. It keeps your larger supply of oils safe at home, and allows you to have more varieties of your oils in a small wallet carrier that fits in your purse without adding excess weight.
