You’re invited to dream big

For our Blend of the Month challenge, we invite our community to focus with us on a different intention, and its associated essential oil blend, for two months, then share their experience. We kicked off this challenge with the Gratitude blend before moving to the Abundance, Believe, Highest Potential, Humility, and Awaken blends. Now we’re switching our focus to the Dream Catcher blend.

The Blend of the Month challenge draws inspiration from the legacy of Young Living Founder D. Gary Young, who discovered that blending essential oils could unlock additional benefits from the individual oils. His creations were more than aromatic companions; they became tools for connecting with moments of reflection, each blend inspired by a different emotion or intention.

Why dreaming matters

You’re asking yourself, why would I want to dream and fantasize? Shouldn’t I be practical and solution oriented?

Gary Young shared that as a child, people often criticized him because of his wandering mind. Rather than believing this habit was a liability, he credited his success partly to this ability to dream big. He said: “We’ve forgotten how to dream and fantasize. But that’s how we discover and create new things.”

The science behind visualization

Research backs that assertion up in two ways. First, studies have shown that mental imagery can improve performance and goal attainment. In a recent paper, scientists found that participants in the study who combined intentions with mental imagery developed stronger habits and maintained improvements over time. (Divine A., Astill S. “Reinforcing implementation intentions with imagery increases physical activity habit strength and behaviour.” Br J Health Psychol 30(2): May 2025. e12795. doi: 10.1111/bjhp.12795. PMID: 40102904; PMCID: PMC11920387.) This is a more focused, intentional visualization of the outcome in your mind and how you are going to achieve it.

Second, when we turn inward with our thoughts, we’re activating a brain function called the Default Mode Network (DMN). The process of daydreaming or mind wandering is associated with the DMN. (Menon V. “20 years of the default mode network: A review and synthesis.” Neuron 111(16): August 2023, 2469–87. doi: 10.1016/j.neuron.2023.04.023. Epub 2023 May 10. PMID: 37167968; PMCID: PMC10524518.) Stronger connection to the DMN—or your ability to daydream—is associated with a greater ability to generate novel ideas and possibilities.

Gary’s take on the Dream Catcher blend

When Gary talked about the Dream Catcher blend, he said, “Whatever we hold in our minds, we’ll create and attract to us.” Though he taught this 30 years ago, it still rings true today!

When you have a new thought, idea, or vision of what you want to achieve, you should visualize it. As you do that, breathe in the Dream Catcher blend’s aroma. You’ll start imprinting that new thought. Do this and you’ll begin changing the encoding of your thinking.

The Dream Catcher protocol

Here’s a simple protocol to follow:

  1. Write down something you want to accomplish.
  2. Visualize yourself achieving that goal.
  3. Apply 2 drops of Dream Catcher blend to your hands and rub them together.
  4. Bring them to your nose and breathe them in while you visualize what you want to achieve.

The Awaken blend, our last Blend of the Month, is a great blend to pair with Dream Catcher. Put a few drops of Awaken and Dream Catcher blends on your pillow before you go to sleep at night and see what comes up in your dreams!

Imagine the possibilities

Imagine what would happen if thousands of people around the world used the Dream Catcher blend daily—rubbing it over their hearts, diffusing it in their homes, and breathing it in with intention. That kind of shared energy would reach beyond just one person. It would awaken the dreams of whole communities. That’s the kind of power that shifts cultures.
