  • I am currently at the cafe at the super market near my house making use of their WiFi. :) I was researching essential oils for my pets and the Young Living blog on that subject was the first search result. So I gave it a look see and was pleased with the info so I decided to look around the site and came upon this brownie recipe. I came to realize that I have everything for it but the cocoa and vanilla so when I get ready To go home, all I have to do is go right down to the baking aisle and purchase those two things. So happy to find a healthier version of one of my favorite treats. Can't wait to give it a try! :)

  • I was thrilled to see this recipe and always prefer a healthier version. While this recipe is edible, I wouldn't compare them to the real thing. Aside from being a little too eggy for my liking, they are more cake-like which I find rather dry and unappealing. If you need gluten free this might give you your chocolate fix, but I'd prefer a yummy chocolate pudding using avocados for my chocolate fix.

I added some DIY roasted, salted chopped pecans to the top of mine. That was my favorite part.

Also, after following the directions, I poured the batter (pre-eggs) into my smoothie single serve to smooth out the black bean skins. Then I poured the batter into the eggs and folded them in. Much smoother.

Will I make these again? Perhaps for someone who requires gluten-free food.

  • I must have done something wrong because mine don't look like the picture at all! They seem more like an eggy fudge. There's no flakiness of brownies. The flavor isn't bad but I don't think I'd serve them to anyone. I'm going individually wrap them in plastic wrap and free. I think the Peppermint will add a nice refreshing quality to this treat.

    • Hi Jessie, Thanks for stopping by! We have not tried substituting the canned black beans with black bean powder at this point in time. If you try this substitute suggestion out, we’d love to hear about your experience. Best of luck and we hope you enjoy the recipe!

  • Very yummy and probably the most moist brownie I have ever had. I put the beans in the food processor before blending with the other ingredients.

  • Can you use peppermint extract or can I use regular peppermint oil. I want to make them but don't want to wait till I get the oil in the mail. Or can you use other flavored oils, such as orange.

    • Hi Linda, Thanks for your question. You are free to substitute Orange Vitality or peppermint extract in the recipe. Peppermint essential oil is labeled for aromatic or topical use. We recommend following the directions on the individual bottle labels for usage.

  • These are delicious! Make sure you blend this well or you'll have bits of beans. This recipe is delicious and the peppermint flavor from the peppermint vitality is perfect! Thank you for sharing!

  • I have 2 friends that made them already and they and their families love them! I'm making them this weekend!

  • Is there a place to find printable recipe cards. I would like to share this and other recipes with friends in a paper form.
