DIY Lavender Makeup Remover Pads

When it’s time to recover from a long day, it’s best to climb into bed with a fresh face. Scrubbing with ineffective or harsh removers can do more damage than good though, especially near the sensitive eye area where the skin is thinner and more prone to fine lines and irritation.

Instead of harsh makeup removers, opt for gentle DIY makeup remover pads infused with Lavender essential oil. You’ll know exactly what goes into this formula, plus you’ll get the benefits of Lavender’s relaxing aroma. Use the instructions below to add them to your nighttime routine.

DIY Lavender Makeup Remover Pads

  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 tsp castile soap
  • 1 tsp witch hazel
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 7 drops Lavender essential oil
  • Round cotton pads
  • 4 ounce airtight glass container
  • Label (save and download label by right clicking the image below)

Instructions

  • Pour distilled water in a glass container.
  • Add castile soap, witch hazel, coconut oil, and Lavender essential oil.
  • Put the lid on the container and shake well to combine all ingredients.
  • Take off the lid and insert the cotton pads to the top of the jar or until they stop absorbing liquid.
  • Print labels on a sticker sheet or on paper and affix with glue. Place label on container lid.
  • To use, remove one wipe and squeeze out excess liquid. Gently blot or wipe over closed eyelids until makeup is removed. Store with the lid tightly screwed.

  • I love this. I bought Swisspers organic Biologique cotton rounds, which are fairly thick and ended up with 25 in the container, because there was still A LOT of liquid with 18. I'm not sure why the recipe only mentions 10 "or so" - definitely not enough.

  • I made a few nights ago and I am AMAZED. It's extremely difficult to find skin care products that I actually feel make a difference + are organic + are inexpensive. I just so happen to have all of the ingredients already in my house, except for the V-6 oil. I substituted the V-6 for olive oil (make sure you use organic and you can even buy it in a bottle that is made for using it on skin... it has a dropper like a serum). Olive oil has firming properties and is one of the few oils that deeply penetrates the skin. It's great if you have dry skin like I do. I use it in the morning before I ever put makeup on. It smells great and feels great. Even my husband said something about how soft my skin feels after using them.

  • Do I need to wash my face after using the makeup remover wipes or are they good enough and oils don't need to be washed off?

    • Hello Sara. It honestly depends on your personal preference. You can wash your face after using the remover wipes if you want to have a less-oily feel to your face, or you can choose to not wash it off. It if totally up to you! Hope that helps!

  • I've never been much of a diy kinda gal but once again my obsession with YLEO has changed yet another thing about me. It all started with these gentle Lavender makeup remover pads, so easy to make. Then it was Tea Tree toner which made my skin feel great. Of course I had to do a Manuka night cream. Then came the Lavender-Lemon eye serum, Panaway muscle rub, Lemongrass body cream. My favorite perfume with all the right notes which I labeled "Satisfy" and the list goes on and on. Thank you so much for all the DIY ideas the possibilities are endless.

  • Not exactly a beauty product, but I've been making my family deodorant since the day I got my kit in 2013. I knew the dangers of aluminum & harmful products in OTC deodorants and antiperspirant!

  • Thank you for the recipe, wondering how long can pads stay in jar. Is there a life span?
    Thanks
    Carole

    • Hello Carole. It depends on how frequently you use the makeup remover pads, but they should last you the amount of time it takes you to use all the pads. Just use them consistently and be sure to seal the lid after use. Thanks for your questions and let us know how you like them!

    • Hello Bri. We have not tried using anything other than witch hazel for this recipe. However, you can look for a replacement online. I have heard that using vodka can work instead of witch hazel. Hope that helps and let us know what you find and come up with! Thanks!

  • I just want to say thank you to the team or person who responds to all the questions on Young Livings DIYs. Wow! I read all the comments to learn new ideas, and info. Through the comments.
