California Transparency in Supply Chains Act

Corporate Disclosure in Compliance with SB 657 California Transparency in Supply Chains Act (Human Trafficking and Anti-Slavery)

On January 1, 2012, the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB 657) went into effect, requiring retailers and manufacturers above a certain size that are doing business in California to disclose measures used to track possible slavery and human trafficking in their supply chains. The disclosure is aimed at providing information to consumers, allowing them to make better, more informed choices about the products they buy and the companies they support.

Young Living Essential Oils, LC (“Young Living”) strives to ensure that human rights are respected throughout its global supply chain. Through Young Living’s Supplier Compliance Manual, all of Young Living’s suppliers and subcontractors are required to comply with Young Living’s Supplier Code of Conduct, which include engaging in fair and ethical employment practices and compliance with this legislation.

Slavery and human trafficking can take many forms, including forced labor, bonded labor, and child labor. Young Living proactively takes efforts to ensure and verify the absence of such slavery and human trafficking in its supply chain. These efforts include:

Certification and Verification

Young Living builds long-term relationships with suppliers who share its values and ethical commitments. All current and potential suppliers and subcontractors of Young Living must agree to comply with the Young Living Supplier Compliance Manual, which includes a commitment requiring Young Living suppliers to comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the country in which their products are manufactured for health and safety, child labor, wages and hours, discrimination, forced labor, etc.

The terms of the Young Living Supplier Code of Conduct specifically requires all suppliers and/or subcontractors to verify/certify that no raw materials, finished product, etc. purchased by Young Living has been manufactured, assembled, and packaged through the direct or indirect use of forced labor, bonded labor, child labor, or unsafe working conditions. Young Living suppliers and their subcontractors must post the Young Living Supplier Code of Conduct in the language of the suppliers’ workers and provide appropriate training to all workers on their rights within the Young Living Code of Conduct and the laws of the applicable country.

Audits
Young Living’s supplier audit program evaluates suppliers’ compliance with the Young Living Supplier Code of Conduct which prohibits forced labor, bonded labor, and child labor. A Young Living representative or independent inspection firm retained by Young Living may audit Young Living’s suppliers and their subcontractors’ facilities and/or records at any time. Young Living will work only with suppliers who share Young Living’s core values and will work to actively maintain these values in the global workplace. Young Living reserves the right to immediately terminate its relationship and cancel all orders with any supplier that does not fully comply with Young Living’s standards, in addition to pursuing any other available remedies resulting from the supplier’s breach.
Accountability
Young Living requires all of its employees to comply with the Young Living Code of Ethics. Suppliers, contractors, and service providers are expected to act ethically and are required to comply with the Young Living Supplier Code of Conduct. As with all alleged violations of policy, Young Living investigates issues and takes the appropriate action up to and including termination of employees and termination of agreements for suppliers and/or contractors found to be in violation of the Young Living Code of Ethics and Young Living Supplier Code of Conduct.
Training

All Young Living employees are required to participate in an ethics training course, which, in part, focuses on the practical implementation of human rights – in particular Health, Safety and Security, Diversity, Harassment and Bullying, Sexual Harassment, Privacy, Supplier Selection, and Fair Treatment of Suppliers. Additionally, all employees are given a copy and must agree to the Young Living Employee Handbook, which requires all employees to report any incidents of human trafficking and includes more detailed information on how to apply the Young Living Code of Ethics when interacting with suppliers.

In accordance with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010, Young Living is compliant in its disclosure of the efforts it is taking to eradicate slavery and human trafficking in the supply chain.
