DIY Lavender Makeup Remover Pads

When it’s time to recover from a long day, it’s best to climb into bed with a fresh face. Scrubbing with ineffective or harsh removers can do more damage than good though, especially near the sensitive eye area where the skin is thinner and more prone to fine lines and irritation.

Instead of harsh makeup removers, opt for gentle DIY makeup remover pads infused with Lavender essential oil. You’ll know exactly what goes into this formula, plus you’ll get the benefits of Lavender’s relaxing aroma. Use the instructions below to add them to your nighttime routine.

DIY Lavender Makeup Remover Pads

  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 tsp castile soap
  • 1 tsp witch hazel
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 7 drops Lavender essential oil
  • Round cotton pads
  • 4 ounce airtight glass container
  • Label (save and download label by right clicking the image below)

Instructions

  • Pour distilled water in a glass container.
  • Add castile soap, witch hazel, coconut oil, and Lavender essential oil.
  • Put the lid on the container and shake well to combine all ingredients.
  • Take off the lid and insert the cotton pads to the top of the jar or until they stop absorbing liquid.
  • Print labels on a sticker sheet or on paper and affix with glue. Place label on container lid.
  • To use, remove one wipe and squeeze out excess liquid. Gently blot or wipe over closed eyelids until makeup is removed. Store with the lid tightly screwed.

  • I have always been told to avoid the area around the eye with essential oils. Any danger in using oils this close to your eyes? Also, the fumes of the oils have made my eyes water and hard to see if I want to say read a book. Has anyone tried this to know if this is the case with the make up remover? Great DIY.

    • Hi Samantha, Great question! It is not advised to put essential oils directly on the eye. However, as the DIY Lavender Makeup Remover is diluted and Lavender is a gentle oil it has been approved for this use. Please be sure to squeeze out excess liquid prior to use. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Has anyone else had trouble with the pads separating when they are wet? I bought premium cotton rounds to avoid this issue but it's still happening. I'm doing this for a make and take this weekend and would love suggestions for a better brand.

    • Just mix it in a small bottle instead and then apply it to the pad. I use aloe vera to remove my eye makeup so maybe try adding oil to aloe too.

  • I found my eyes stung a little bit from the DIY eye makeup remover. I made sure to squeeze out any liquid from the cotton pad first and that helped.

  • I love the many optional uses that each oil provides. Please keep the suggested using coming.

    • Hi Becky, Thanks for stopping by! First right-click on the label image and Save the image to your computer. Then open the file from your computer and you should be able to print it. I hope this helps!

  • Made my own foaming facial cleanser with Geranium and Frank. But I sure love this idea of a pad to wipe my face clean at the end of the day! Can't wait to make this

    • Hi Jamie! I just made these pads and loved them. I would definitely love the recipe to your geranium and frank foaming facial cleanser if you are open to sharing! I am loving being able to make things that are good support for my skin! Take care. :)

    • Hi Jaime would love to have your recipe for the foaming facial cleanser please :-) I often mix Geranium & Frankincense with organic coconut oil to cleanse off my makeup but I would love a foaming face wash to use in the shower as I prefer to wash my face after removing makeup so I can be sure my makeup has been thoroughly removed. Much prefer to make my own skincare whenever possible. Look forward to hearing back from you... cheers :-)

  • I now make my own hand soap, face wash, and deodorant with essential oils! Loving all my homemade products!

  • I suggest using organic cotton pads. I get organic cotton pads from my local health food store.
