An Oil Cleanse to Keep Your Skin Timeless-Looking

Wrinkles are not the only sign of aging that visibly add years to our face; sagging skin, age spots, and dull skin tone also reveal the passage of time. And when we rush through our routines, skipping the steps necessary for caring for our skin, we can end up with unhealthy-looking skin.

Maintaining a cleaning regimen that removes makeup and dirt from skin can help keep the look of healthy skin long past youth. This year, renew your efforts to care for your skin’s natural beauty and keep it looking timeless with this simple cleanse!

  • This recipe sounds amazing! Young Living has a lot of DIY recipes I want to try for cleansing and moisturizing my face and skin. But is there any DIY YLEO recipes you recommend for opening up pores and completely washing out or absorbing whiteheads and blackheads? I've used many different acne products out there and peel of masks but none work. I really want to use essential oils so I don't put any chemicals on my skin. So any suggestions of what YL oils to use or what the best recipe is? Thanks!

    • Hi Trevor, We recommend reviewing our essential oils and skin care products and discussing the use of these products with a dermatologist for specific recommendations for your skin type! Thanks for stopping by with your question!

      • Trevor -

For a more "natural" cleanser/exfoliator that not only hydrates, but absorbs excess oils all while gently exfoliating, try out the Micro-Exfoliating Honey Cleanser from Circadia.

It's gentle enough to use twice a day. You can even add a a drop of some of your favorite skin friendly YLEOs. Most carrier oils are going to be way too heavy for an oily/acneic skin type. Do a search for a spa near you that carries Circadia. ( I'm a licensed skincare professional, a diamond level educator on a number of lines, and a distributor of YLEOs)

  • I read that most essential oils should be diluted to 1-20 (5%). But when I read this recipe it states 1-3 drops which could be the difference between 1-20 and 1-7 (if I'm right). What would you recommend?

    • Hi Sally, We recommend following the usage directions as listed on the individual labels. This particular recipe suggests using 1/4 cup of the base carrier oil with 1-3 drops of the essential oil. If you have sensitive skin, further dilution may be needed. If you have further concerns, we suggest speaking with a dermatologist about the use of essential oils. Thanks for stopping by with your question!

    • Hi Paula, We recommend making the cleansing recipe at the time it is going to be used and making a new batch for the next time! Thanks for stopping by with your question!

  • I love love love the rose ointment too!! If you haven't tried it it's amazing!

  • I have mature skin so most products are for moisturizing. However I have OILY skin and those products are horrible for me...trying to find something to cleanse and uplift skin that doesn't over moisturize my already oily skin...any ideas? I use Geranium now but not a lot of difference...

    • Hi Stella, I have been taught by two of my profession make-up artist friends that there is no such thing as oily or dry skin. Everyone has the same type of skin; however, their bodies are responding to the food and beverages eaten, and products, or environment to which they are introduced. In my experience, I have found this to be true. I always thought I had T-Zone skin and after I stopped using base or foundation and other commercial make up products and commercial facial cleaning products, I found my skin did not have oily areas or dry areas any more. I now have great looking and balanced skin, at 50 years of age, due to removing these products from my daily regimen and changing my diet, as well. I now only use Young Living oils, and their Art skincare line to provide wellness for my skin and I receive compliments almost daily when people find out how old I am. They always think I am twenty years younger.

    • Hi Stella,

I believe different people respond differently to many oils.

That said, I swear by Argan Oil. It's the base that I use in any skin related serum, and I'll use it by itself as well.

For about six months I've been using it on my face and hair and the results have been remarkable. I feel like I've discovered the fountain of youth!

I am a 38-year old male, and I have naturally oily skin. The beauty of Argan to me is that after 3-4 minutes of application, it's as if I never put on anything with regard to my face feeling oily. I can rub my finger across my forehead and it will get stuck because it feels so dry!

Two stories....I went to a professional license renewal class that went on about two weeks. There were people of all ages in there, well at least from about 25-60. One day at lunch two friends I had made, both of whom were mid-20's suddenly said to me "how do you look so young? Seriously you look younger than we do and we're 10 years younger. The girl said I had the skin of a 22-year-old. This wasn't always the case...but sure enough I went home and looked at myself with these comments in mind, and dangit, they were right! I do look younger than I have in years....

As I said I use it on my hair as well. I went to get a cut after about 5 months of using it and just trimming my hair at home. I wear it medium length and can get away with it. Well, the hairdresser is a friend and has been cutting my hair for 15 years. As he got busy cutting away, he stopped suddenly and said "what have you been doing? Look at these clumps of hair?" My hair has been oily, and thin since I was a kid...my friends teased me in high school calling it "french-fry," hair. Sure enough I look on the ground and there's these large clumps of hair that look like they would have come from Jon Stamos head, not mine!

It's funny because same as my face, I hadn't noticed until this...but sure enough, my hair has almost transformed from thin, oily hair, into thick and lush hair. And the slow receding that began in my early 30's has become a thing of the past. Now I see new baby hair springing up in front on a daily basis.

Anyhow, I thought I'd share these stories and encourage you to experiment with Argan as a base.

I have recently incorporated 10 drops of Pomegranate, and 5 drops each of Bergamot, Lavender, Frankincense, Myrrh and Geranium., mixed with 1 part jojoba and 2 parts Argan, all in a 2 oz bottle.

It feels great and is continuing the results of the Argan alone, and who knows, but I like the idea of a mix of benefits.

Good luck! Can't go wrong with oils...

    • Hi Stella, Excellent question! We would recommend experimenting to see what works best for you. The recommendations in this post for Oily Skin may be beneficial for you as the cleansing base oils suggested are also moisturizing.

    • Thank you for the story and tips I love the sound of what you are doing. Love argon too

  • I've been using the OCM (Oil Cleanse Method) for years, and will ALWAYS us this method! Best facial cleanser ever :-)

  • I'm excited to try this! I think I'll try olive oil and add a drop of frankincense, juniper and lavender.
Sounds like my skin will be in "Young Living heaven".
