Celebrating six years of impact with Rebuild Nepal

Leaving a lasting impact for 5,000 students and women in Nepal

The Young Living Foundation wrapped up restoration and rebuild efforts in August. After six years of rebuild efforts that have impacted thousands of people in Nepal, The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation celebrated the completion of its Rebuild Nepal project in August. These efforts—powered by the compassion and generosity of our global Young Living community—provided education to over 2,500 students, economically empowered 2,450 women, and created sanctuary for 100 families.

Young Living founder Gary Young started the Rebuild Nepal project in 2016 after a series of devastating earthquakes destroyed homes, schools, and businesses. Gary was committed to building 100 homes and a primary school in Yarsa, which came to fruition in 2018. The Young Living Foundation then expanded its support further in Nepal by restoring 15 schools and building two women’s cooperative centers in the Tanahun District.

The Foundation’s school rebuild and restoration efforts helped add 82 classrooms to 15 schools, repaired damaged infrastructure, and improved school grounds to create an inviting atmosphere for students. The principal of the Janakalyan school explained that it would have taken over five years to raise enough funds to add the six classrooms, a library, and a computer lab. The upgrades to this school alone unlocked educational opportunity for more than 250 new students in the region who previously couldn’t attend school due to financial constraints.

The two women’s cooperative centers are now thriving, growing, and offering more women opportunities for financial self-reliance. One woman has been able to grow her agriculture business from 5 chickens to over 300. Another can now afford to send her grandchildren to school from the profits of her small business. Ultimately, these cooperatives are helping women feel involved and empowered to positively influence their families and communities.

We are so grateful for the entire Foundation team in Nepal, the more than 100 Young Living brand partners who assisted on service trips, and all who contributed to make this six-year project an amazing success. While this project has come to an end, the Foundation continues to provide support in vulnerable communities worldwide by creating opportunity through championing education, developing enterprise, and ending exploitation.
