Young Living Essential Oils’ Spanish Fork Lab Earns Prestigious A2LA Accreditation

Lehi, Utah, January 8, 2025

Young Living Essential Oils is proud to announce that its Spanish Fork Quality Control laboratory has achieved ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for technical competence in chemical testing, granted by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). This milestone underscores Young Living’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in product testing and quality assurance.

This accreditation certifies the lab’s compliance with internationally recognized standards for testing and calibration laboratories, including:

  • Verifying that laboratory instrumentation is properly qualified and maintained

  • Demonstrating that test methods are fully validated

  • Ensuring autonomy of laboratory results, free from external influences such as quality assurance or production teams

  • Maintaining comprehensive audit trails backed data for all testing conducted

  • Updating Certificates of Analysis to reflect the results obtained using ISO-accredited methods

“This accreditation substantiates what we’ve always claimed: Our laboratory is a top-notch organization with high standards,” said Paul Hansen, vice president of Quality Systems at Young Living. “We’ve never scrimped on investing in the lab to make sure our testing is accurate and precise and that we’re returning good results for consumers.”

Young Living’s ISO accreditation means all analytical essential oil testing done in-house now meets ISO-accredited standards. Competitors often rely on third-party labs for this level of testing, but Young Living’s lab meets the same high criteria. In other words, the results from Young Living’s lab are just as reliable and trustworthy as those from external laboratories.

“This accreditation shows that our lab has continually been held to a high standard,” said Andy Giles, senior director of Quality Control Labs. “It’s a testament to the integrity of our support staff, microbiologists, chemists, and management.”

The accreditation process, which began with an online pre-audit in February 2024 and culminated in October 2024, took six months to complete. This milestone represents the first step in the lab’s ongoing journey to expand its scope of accreditation.

A2LA Vice President of Accreditation Services Trace McInturff praised the accomplishment:

“ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation represents the highest standard of competence for testing laboratories. Achieving accreditation from A2LA demonstrates that Young Living Essential Oils operates with the quality, technical expertise, and impartiality necessary to deliver consistent, reliable, and valid results, imparting confidence in their customers and end users of their products.”

While Young Living will continue to utilize third-party laboratories for specialized testing that is not currently available in-house, this achievement solidifies its position as an industry leader.
