Job Summary

The Production Manager role is a critical leadership position that requires a highly motivated individual that strives for operation excellence on a daily basis, promoting a continuous improvement environment. The position requires interpersonal skills to lead a culture of accountability, building trust while providing the training that allows all employees to grow to their maximum potential as contributors who can continuously take on more responsibility in an empowered team environment. This position is a working manager with hands-on work effort in addition to supervising up to 15 employees, including two supervisor positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must have the vision and strategy to lead the organization using Lean Six Sigma Principles, moving the organization to a “World Class” operating environment
Provide culture of quality built in to all areas of operation, meeting and exceeding all FDA and CGMP requirements, including leading a culture of relentless attention to both employee safety and product safety
Must be self-motivated with a high degree of ownership and accountability for results; must be proactive in all areas of accountability, understanding priorities, adapting to an ever-changing work environment; must have a relentless pursuit for excellence
Must be result driven, understanding key metrics that drive the business for cost improvement on a per-unit basis and units-per-man-hour productivity; must look for opportunities to improve and leverage all people, processes, technology, and equipment innovations
Must have the ability to work cross-functionally with peers in a positive can do attitude to achieve organizational goals of exceeding customer expectations
Must make sure that products are batched and produced on time and are of excellent quality
Have autonomy to include a high level of self-motivation, ownership, and accountability for results
Be accountable to assure shift start-ups are efficient with the appropriate value; add pre-shift meetings as agreed upon by senior manager; assure effective shift close outs and or hand-offs when second shift is necessary
Assure all materials are coordinated for effective production flow on a daily basis, utilizing internal resources and other functional leaders in departments such as Quality, Inventory Control, and Distribution
Assure that all products are produced on time and meet or exceed quality standard and meeting the expectations, planning, and forecasting; assess any gaps and find root causes for any short falls in plan. Utilize all resources available to address issues developing improvements to eliminate any future shortfalls
Assure effective and efficient use of all lines; provide equipment adjustments and minor repairs; implement a training process to bring line operators up to speed on training process that will enable them to take on more responsibility in a prudent manner that allows for employee growth, allowing more time to focus on bigger picture production goals
Champion safety for the department while influencing plant-wide safety performance; ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed and meetings are held to assure employees understand company procedures
Manage all inventory locations related to the production environment
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet business demands and/or special projects
Must be a hands-on manager with excellent interpersonal skills, leading by example, with an ability to coach associates and encourage employee growth
Must understand performance metrics; analyze trends to understand performance opportunities and to close gaps
Monitor daily production to ensure production quotas are met and targeted KPIs are achieved
Collaborate effectively with functional counter parts to assure professional working relationships are maintained, supporting overall team success
Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization
Manage labor costs; assure staffing meets the needs of business cycles with both full-time and temporary staffing
Provide strong change management skills in a highly complex and sometimes ambiguous environment
Interview and make hiring recommendations as positions open or growth dictates to assure employee resources meet the demand of the business while still maintaining cost goals
Must have the ability to coach and develop associates to achieve team success with positive work environment and a culture of ownership and accountability
Track employee attendance; assure any disciplinary action that needs to be taken is done in collaborating with senior manager and human resources manager
Assure the department is in compliance with all company guidelines per company handbook and Young Living in meeting all state and federal laws pertaining to the area of responsibility; e.g., EEOC, OSHA, and FDA

Computer Skills: Demonstrate expertise with Microsoft products and other applicable software or applications
Excellent skills in utilizing excel is a must for this position

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, business management, or related field
A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing and production
Must have 3 years of successful leadership experience managing a team
Understanding of FDA and cGMP environment
Lean Six Sigma certifications preferred

Work Environment

Employee may work in an office setting. The individual must be able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused.
Employee may work in a Production or Warehouse environment, needing to wear sweatshirt or specific OSHA safety gear.
Employee may work on occasion in Farm environment and in colder temperatures, needing to wear warm clothing and applicable OSHA safety gear.

Safety Requirements

Employee is required to understand proper safety procedures before operating any equipment.
Employee may be required to be certified to use equipment.
Employee may be required to wear appropriate OSHA safety gear.
