Summary

We are currently seeking a highly motivated professional for the position of assistant farm manager for our Highland Flats Tree Farm in Naples, ID.

The assistant farm manager is responsible for assisting the farm manager as well as the VP of global farms in planning, organizing, and executing farm duties, including assisting the farm manager in directing all farm operations to meet yield and harvest requirements, as well as maintaining existing farm infrastructure and all compliance-related matters. This position is a working assistant manager’s position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in generating planting plans and budget inputs
Assist farm manager in designing and implementing systems to efficiently manage labor and equipment
Propose creative solutions to farming problems
Generate new ideas for testing in our research program
Assist farm manager in working closely with distillation and quality management to produce the highest quality products
Assist farm manager in generating accurate tree survey and tree forecast data
Assist farm manager in educating and enforcing all safety requirements
Assist farm manager in maintaining farm operations data for analysis and trending
Assist the farm manager in training and supervising the assistant growers and distillers
Maintain and enforce all compliance areas
Assist in planning annual harvests and periodic farm events
Assist farm manager in providing direct supervision of all onsite building projects

Qualifications

Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
Assist farm manager in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints; resolve problems
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Computer Skills

Demonstrate expertise with Microsoft products and other applicable software or applications

Education and Experience

BS in agronomy, plant science, or horticulture
At least 3 years of agricultural farm management experience
Mechanical knowledge and agricultural tools expertise
Ability to prepare daily written reports and business correspondence
Ability to assist farm manager in managing assets, both equipment and labor
Ability to assist farm manager in budgeting, programming, managing, and scheduling
Results-oriented assistant manager
Ability to plan ahead and to look at the whole picture
Bilingual English/Spanish is highly preferred
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers or employees

Work Environment

Employee may work in an office setting and must be able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused.
Employee may work in warehouse/distillery environment, needing to wear sweatshirt or specific OSHA safety gear.
Employee may work in farm environment and in hot and cold temperatures, needing to wear appropriate clothing and applicable OSHA safety gear.

Safety Requirements

Employee is required to understand proper safety procedures before operating any equipment.
Employee may be required to be certified to use equipment.
Employee may be required to wear appropriate OSHA safety gear.
