20 Years of Young Living Philanthropy

For 20 years and counting, Young Living’s commitment to improving the world around us has been a guiding concept for everything we do. Through the efforts of Young Living Founder and CEO D. Gary Young and his family, our leadership and employees, as well as the efforts of the D. Gary Young Foundation, we work tirelessly to give back to the global community of which we are a proud part. This month we celebrate two decades of Young Living philanthropy.

The D. Gary Young Foundation’s most recent efforts have benefitted the children of the Young Living Academy, providing children ages 5 through 15 in Chongon, Ecuador, with precious educational opportunities. During last year’s Master Leader Retreat, top Young Living members donated more than $36,000 to the school in a single evening! You may view a video of the retreat below.

This year the foundation has already added 45 additional students to the Young Living Academy and will focus on sponsoring these additional students, as well as funding the expansion of the current academy to accommodate the high school grades. The expansion will accommodate more students and nurture their passion for learning. To help fund this effort, the 2014 International Grand Convention will feature the Walk a Mile for a Child fundraiser on Thursday, June 26, from 6–8 a.m. Stay tuned and check back at YoungLiving.com/Convention to register and find more details!
Along with the foundation’s efforts, our U.S. and international markets volunteer in their local communities. Recent projects have included:
Young Living U.S.: Each month several employees spend a day volunteering for local nonprofits such as Adopt a Native Elder, which helps bridge cultural rifts between Native American Elders and other cultures, and the Food and Care Coalition, which helps distribute food to Utah’s hungry.
Young Living Singapore: A generous cash donation was made to World Vision Philippines to benefit victims of the devastating Typhoon Haiyan. The office added $1 per bottle of NingXia Red® sold during November 2013 to the corporate cash donation.
Young Living Europe: Employees contributed to three excellent causes through donations and fundraising events: Baby James’ Starlight Trust to support those affected by mitochondrial disease; the D. Gary Young Foundation to sponsor the education of three students; and the office’s Good Cause Fund to allocate donations to charities nominated by employees.
Young Living Canada: Members affected by the 2013 floods in Calgary received a month of free shipping, as well as Thieves® Household Cleaner to aid in cleanup. Employees also took a full day and volunteered in the affected areas nearest them.
Young Living Australia: In August 2013 the Australia office sponsored the National Institute of Integrative Medicine’s Role Models event, as well as important research on the distillation of blue cypress by Professor Martin Boland of Charles Darwin University.
Young Living Japan: In addition to the tireless medical volunteer work of member and nurse Risa Nakahira following the massive 2011 tsunami, the Japan office made a donation of $14,000 to relief efforts. The donation was funded by employees, as well as by 10 percent of the market’s Lavender essential oil sales from March 16 through April 15, 2011.
We are grateful for a global community that has embraced us as a company and consider it an honor to give back. We encourage you to join us in celebrating our 20 years of service and philanthropy by donating your time or funds to worthy causes. We also invite you to donate to the D. Gary Young Foundation and help provide a child in need with precious educational resources.
