The Young Living Lavender Farm and Distillery is a real working farm. Along with these four-legged friends, you\u2019ll find a bounty of botanicals. And yes, we grow quite a bit of lavender on the farm, but you\u2019ll also find a few other essential oil favorites in our fields.<\/p>\n<p>What do we grow on the Young Living Lavender Farm and Distillery?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/queue.youngliving.com\/softblock\/?c=youngliving&amp;e=prodmain&amp;t=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youngliving.com%2Fus%2Fen%2Fproduct%2Flavender-essential-oil&amp;cid=en-US&amp;rticr=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lavender<\/a>: The farm is famous for its sprawling lavender fields made up of 822,000 plants. When in bloom, it\u2019s oceans of soft purple flowers as far as the eyes can see! With a fresh floral scent and solid list of benefits, it\u2019s no wonder Lavender is one of our best-selling oils.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/goldenrod-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goldenrod<\/a>: A flowering herb with bright yellow tops, goldenrod\u2019s scientific name, Solidago, comes from the Latin word solidare, which means \u201cto strengthen.\u201d And while Lavender essential oil is at the top of the most-popular oil list, Goldenrod isn\u2019t far behind due to its unique benefits .<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/clary-sage-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clary sage<\/a>: Clary sage is native to the Mediterranean and parts of Europe, but you can totally find it flowering on the farm. The oil\u2019s herbaceous, slightly floral aroma comes in handy after a hard day. (And yes, there\u2019s a difference between clary sage and sage !)<\/li>\n<li>Blue yarrow : Blue Yarrow essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and leaves the yarrow plant. The result is an oil with a rich, blue hue. Although we don\u2019t sell this oil as a single, you can benefit from its soothing scent by picking up a bottle of Dragon Time\u2122 or Mister\u2122.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/melissa-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Melissa<\/a>: The melissa plant, also known as lemon balm, is a member of the mint family. But that doesn\u2019t stop this oil from having a grassy, lemony scent! The oil is steam distilled from aerial parts of the plant before it flowers. Thanks to a bottle full of skin-loving benefits, Melissa essential oil is commonly found in cosmetics and personal care products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #6e5f87\"><strong>Farm fact:<\/strong> <\/span>Farm workers also plant milkweed to help monarch butterflies. Monarchs can\u2019t survive without milkweed. The butterflies lay their eggs on the plants, so their caterpillars can eat the moment they hatch. Unfortunately, the steam distillation process requires A LOT of water.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019 the team took a deep dive into the current distillation process, with the goal to preserve as much water as possible. The answer? Recycling and reusing water with a closed-loop cooling water system. The redesign uses existing infrastructure and saves 260 million gallons of water per year!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #6e5f87\"><strong>Here\u2019s how a closed-loop system works:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1. Fresh water pumped from the wells is heated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Steam from the heated water is used to extract essential oils from plant matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">3. The steam is cooled and condensed into liquid. Water is separated from oil and becomes floral water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">4. Floral water is directed to the farm\u2019s holding ponds and pumped into irrigation lines.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does this process save water, but it also gives the soil an added boost! Remember that floral water? After distilling, a small amount of oil, chlorophyll, and plant residue is left in the condensed water\u2014that\u2019s why it\u2019s called floral water. Instead of letting it go to waste, the system pumps the water into the irrigation lines, providing water for the fields and adding extra acidity to the alkaline soils.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #6e5f87\">Farm fact:<\/span> <\/strong>This is one of the largest privately owned essential oil distilleries in the world. (The stuff most of us think of as waste is actually pretty powerful!) The result is rich, organic fertilizer that provides the ground with a much-needed nutrient boost each year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #6e5f87\">Farm fact:<\/span><\/strong> Young Living Lavender Farm and Distillery covers over 1,300 acres, with an additional 400 acres of adjacent land used for water rights.
