Within the essential oil community, the term \u201cessential oil\u201d is often abbreviated to EO. It\u2019s simple but sometimes confusing to those who are new to the scene.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #42869e\">Hot Oils<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some popular oils such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/cinnamon-bark-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinnamon Bark<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/clove-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clove <\/a>have a warming or \u201chot\u201d oil sensation when they\u2019re applied topically. Other examples of hot oils and blends include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/oregano-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregano<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/thyme-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thyme<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/exodus-ii-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exodus II\u2122,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/citrus-fresh-essential-oil-blend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thieves\u00ae.<\/a> We recommend using a patch test procedure prior to your first use to <strong><span style=\"color: #42869e\">see how it feels on your skin.<\/span> <\/strong>To perform a patch test, apply 1\u20132 drops of essential oil to a patch of skin such as the forearm. Observe that area of skin over the course of 1\u20132 hours for any noticeable reaction; however, reactions occur usually within 5\u201310 minutes. If you experience a hot or burning sensation or develop a rash, you should avoid using the oil without dilution. Instead, \u201cneat\u201d means to apply an essential oil to your skin undiluted. Oils like <a href=\"https:\/\/youngliving.queue-it.net\/softblock\/?c=youngliving&amp;e=blackfridayweek2023&amp;t=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youngliving.com%2Fus%2Fen%2Fproduct%2Flavender-essential-oil&amp;cid=en-US&amp;rticr=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lavender<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/tea-tree-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tea Tree<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngliving.com\/us\/en\/product\/royal-hawaiian-sandalwood-essential-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sacred Sandalwood<\/a> can be applied neat, with no need for a carrier oil.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #42869e\">Photosensitive Oils <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A compound called furocoumarin, which is found mainly in citrus oils, greatly increases UV sensitivity. During distillation, a water bath is placed over a heat source with the plant suspended over the water. As the water heats, it creates steam that rises through the plant material. That steam, now heavy with essential oil molecules, moves into a condensing coil, where we separate the essential oils from the water.
