When your schedule is filled with helping and taking care of everyone else, it’s easy to forget about your own needs. Thankfully, it only takes a few steps to create a night that’s all your own! Our three tips will help you plan a much-deserved night to yourself.
Step 1: Plan Ahead
You’ve heard it before—fail to plan, plan to fail! Taking time to care for yourself is no different. Pencil your special night into your calendar and treat it like the priority it is. You wouldn’t cancel on a friend in need, so give yourself the same respect.
After you have it booked, make any necessary arrangements. Get a sitter for the kids or have your spouse take them out for a few hours. Take care of household to-dos and grab any special treats you need, whether it be a new book or some indulgent snacks. Try your best to eliminate as many distractions as possible so you can focus on just yourself for the night.
Step 2: Set the Scene
While everyone’s perfect pampering looks different, the goal is to create the environment that’s most relaxing for you. A great place to start is playing calming music, dimming the lights, lighting candles, and diffusing your favorite essential oil or blend.
Want to really indulge? Invest in a new diffuser to make your experience extra spa-like. Choose a simple and chic style like the Dewdrop™ or Desert Mist™ Diffuser, pick up the luxurious Aria™ Ultrasonic Diffuser, or look through all our diffusers to find your perfect match. Whichever diffuser you use, it’s just as important that you diffuse the perfect aroma during your relaxing night. We’re fans of classics such as Lavender, German Chamomile, Cedarwood, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang.
Step 2: Relax!
Once your prep work is done, it’s time to treat yourself! Settle in with a good book, a TV show you’ve been wanting to catch up on, or a favorite hobby. Need some help planning the perfect night? Check out our ideas below, all infused with the goodness of essential oils.
Spa Bath Treatment
Unwind in a spa-like atmosphere from the comfort of your home. We love bath bonuses like face masks, bath salts, a captivating book, bath gel, and body lotion.
YL Tip: Apply body lotion to damp skin to lock in moisture.
Our top picks:
Relaxing Facial
Get an at-home facial in just four steps! The basis of beautiful skin starts with a cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer, and you can add some extra oomph with a gentle exfoliator. With the additional attention, you’ll experience beyond-skin-deep pampering.
YL Tip: Try a DIY stress-reducing facial massage.
With your eyes closed, massage the sides of your jaw in large, circular motions. Create a path past the sides of your mouth, along your nostrils, and over your cheekbones. Eventually move to your forehead and temples. Tension accumulates in this area, so spend some extra time here. For about one minute, work from both temples to the middle of your forehead and back to the temples.
Our top picks:
Pedicure Pick-Me-Up
Feel great from your head to your toes. A DIY pedicure is easy, and it can save you a trip to the salon. Plus, a little time spent on a pedicure keeps your feet looking great for days or weeks!
YL Tip: Take a look at our Three Simple Steps to Fab Feet blog for ideas to exfoliate, moisturize, and pamper your feet.

Just when things bring me to the point of exhaustion, YL posts remind me to center myself, renew my energy and slow down. Thanks
So glad that we could help Lucille. Thanks for posting on our blog 🙂
I am going to make the lavender oatmeal bath soak. Sounds like the perfect way for me to relax after a long 10 hour day of house cleaning! Thanks!
I would soak in a bath with oils and candles and diffuser with lavender scent. Put on a mask for a fresh facial. Lather up with some lotion and read a good book with some warm tea.
I am a new member and just just bought my first oils today. I’m so excited to try everything and learn more about these oils. I have always been into oils but never knew living oils where so good and healthier for you than the ones I have always purchased. I enjoy yoga, massages, exercising and what better way to enjoy life but to add these exciting oils to it! I look forward to learning more about them and maybe being a distributor and sharing with others this amazing discovery! Live-Laugh and Love everyday with Living Oils!!!
Welcome to the Young Living family Sharon! I promise you won’t regret it. Thanks for stopping by!
i make sure i have lavender in my diffuser and soft music. i think of pretty colors and positive thoughts in my mind. life can be challenging and it sure can get to us. deep breaths and count your blessings. yes praying helps alot and telling people you love that you love them. talk about your feelings that you trust to someone. us woman like to vent and get our frustrations out, i find my self feeling better if i do.
Sleep in a bit, Slather myself in Abundance and Joy, touch base with my grown son and laugh and reminense about his childhood then grab my husband and go ride our horses together forever💕🐴. Best day EVER!
I haven’t used essential oils much, but just having the lavender scent in the diffuser calms me down. I will have to try adding oils to my bath water and sit back with a candle lit room. I will add soothing piano music and let the oils do their job. After that, I will have a massage with oils added to the carrier oil of choice and relax even more.
I like to pamper myself making custom skin care serums or bath salts. I enjoy creating them almost as much as using them and I always make some extra to pamper my friends as well. My fave face serum is Frankincense, tea tree, purification, rosehip, lavender, eucalyptus radiatia, Melrose, and helichrysum. For bath salts I like sandalwood and ylang ylang.
I love the ART .. I relax with any combo that hits me at the time… Most of the time cedarwod with a citrus.
A good healthy breakfast, coffee with a drop or two of Cinnamon Bark Vitality essential oil, a quick yoga workout to stretch and warm up. Then it’s outside to my garden, hike, kayak, chase the grandkids, or any combination of these. I like to end the day with a DIY lavender and geranium face wash, a little more yoga to stetch it out, a soak in the tub with DIY bath salts, some soft music and light reading,
Sounds like a fantastic day to us, Nancy! Thanks for stopping by!
Nancy, you are inspiring! 🙂
Start by sleeping in and having a relaxing morning. Spend the day reading or watching movies with my family. A nice dinner and an evening walk. Finish the day by taking a relaxing bath with the Lavender Oatmeal Bath Soak. Then diffusing Stress Away right after.
A long hot bath and massage.
I’m brand new to EO but I will pamper myself by adding lavender and lemon to my regular soak (after 40+ miles cycling in Houston heat) of Epsom salts and baking soda. Then I’ll massage purification and coconut oil on my bod, with copaiba worked into my feet. I’ll finish off with a cup of organic green tea with a touch of spearmint vitality oil and a nap! Cannot WAIT!
Wonderful ideas! Thank you YL blog….can’t wait to try😃
I can’t wait to take a spa type bath and relax with the lavender being diffused.
I would love to relax in the evening with a warm bath and diffusing my favorite blends of YLEO. I enjoy a foot rub with Pan Away but would love to indulge in a facial and pedicure Young Living style.
I schedule “Me Time” for every Monday night – I find it helps me reset from busy weekends and adjust and prepare for the week coming up. I get all my to-do’s finished during the day and after dinner, the hubs does the dishes while I go up and shower with a Lavender and Eucalyptus shower bomb. After shower, I give myself a mini-facial with frankincense resin scrub and bentonite clay with frankincense and tea tree oils. While my mask is drying I’ll either give myself a mini-mani or catch up on my dvr or maybe update my planner for the week… then finish my facial off with Sacred 7 Serum and a nighttime moisturizer. By the time all of this is completed, I’m ready to drift off to sleep with the help of my Lavender & Cedarwood linen spray and my roller. Me Time is so important to keep my sanity and help keep me feeling pampered without breaking the bank! With the help of my oils over the last 10 months, my “Me Time” is even better!
Each night I massage my feet with Pan Away
Sunday is going to be my pampering day. Each week I will try something different. Now that I have it on my calendar it’s time to plan what I will do!
I am sooooo glad and ecstatic that I am with young living essential oils. I am looking for more oils to buy and more product in future for myself to get acquanted with soon
I’m going to take the day off and have a spa day at home!
So many great “me time” ideas. I’m in the middle of moving and usually if I get a me time it’s doing 10 different things at once. I like the idea of setting aside time for only me.
I pamper myself all day. Start with lemon vitality in my water, peppermint vitality in my coffee, shot of Ningxia, and Super B tablets. Next month I’ll be adding Sulfurzyme. While getting ready to leave, I apply Valor to my neck as a cologne. In the afternoon I roll-on En-R-Gee. Throughout the day, I get to use Lavender or Thieves foaming hand soap, Thieves dish soap, and Thieves essential oil on our laundry balls. While we’re relaxing at night, we like to diffuse Evergreen Essence or Northern Lights Black Spruce, and before bed we diffuse Cedarwood and Lavender.
I just ordered my kit yesterday, and I can’t wait to experiment!
A hot bath with a few drops of lavender oil, one of my favorite ways to relax!
In the past, I enjoyed an Epsom salt/coconut oil soak with my favorite Jasmine candle and a cup of hot tea. Now that I have my YL essential oil kit, I’ll be adding one of my new oils to the tub along with the Epsom salt and diffusing a Lavender blend in my new diffuser. I can almost feel the relaxation starting.
My favorite way to relax is a long soaking bath with one of my homemade bath salts reading a book.
I love the idea of scheduling a time for yourself. By putting it down on a calendar I am more likely to do it. Thanks !
Love the idea to set an appointment. Looking forward to my essential oil bath salts that I made at a blending class recently.
I am afraid I am one of those guilty of not taking better care of myself! The article provides some good advice for those like me…. put it on your calendar- make a date with yourself. So, turning a leaf here. I will identify a date on my calendar and look up some of these self care recipes and plan to take better care of myself going forward. Thank you!
A good book with lavender and orange in the diffuser and maybe I can talk my husband into massaging my feet with Relaxation massage oil then lights out early- because I’m in serious need of a good night’s sleep!
I love the ideas and recipes! I am planning ahead to July 30th. I’ll take a nice long bath and try the in-home facial. Thank you for the ideas!
I’m new to YL, but I already LOVE the Lavendar oil in my dewdrop diffuser. Also the stress away is awesome! Very excited to get started on this new adventure and learning more about how to use all the oils!!
This post is something I really needed to see! My family and I are so busy and I often forget to take time out for myself.. and when I do I sometimes feel guilty or have a hard time relaxing because I know there are other things I could be doing! Thanks for the reminder that it is important for “me time” as well!
How do I pamper myself? A restorative yoga session, a cup of tea and a long soak in a warm tub with epsom salt and lavender oil…..bliss!
I really enjoy a nice soak with the Lavender Oatmeal bath soak. It’s so easy to make too! My relaxing scent in the diffuser is Peace and Calming or Aroma Ease.
It sounds wonderful! I wear SressAway oil every morning and enjoy my life!
Great ideas here. I especially like the idea to schedule it. I’m going to start putting more me time on my schedule. I also want to try the German Chamomile Oil.
Sounds like some great tips! I really should do this!!
I just set up a night to pamper myself along with some team members for next Tuesday evening! I’m super excited we plan on having 2 diffusers going and everyone will experience the ART skin care that my skin has recently fell in love with!
an epsom salt foot soak (add a few drops of lavender/peace & calming, or lavender/copiaba, or joy/lemongrass) while reading a new book series was SO wonderful on a Sunday Night after a long bike ride and working on packing up the apartment for the next move. Going to try out some other combinations of EO’s in the future.
First I would start with sleeping in and then when I did wake I would enjoy a cup of Joe and a casual walk outside before the heat starts. Then a healthy breakfast with a new spin from some of the YL supplements followed by a bath perhaps with lavender and the DIY oatmeal bath soak. Afterwards I would find a sweet movie to watch all by myself without distraction and then maybe fall asleep with a little lavender oil. By then it should be okay to have a glass of wine and lunch followed by a massage at the spa as well as a mani and pedi. At this point I’ll be missing my family who will come home and pig pile on top of me with our two dogs when I’ll be immediately grateful and saying a prayer of thanks for all my blessings.
I’ll make thieves vitality and lemon vitality tea, and have a relaxing YLEO bath soak! I also can’t wait to try the pedicure ideas on the YL blog!
