Tips for Kissable Lips

Just a little care and know-how can help make your lips kissably smooth. Start your lip care routine with an exfoliating lip scrub, which can help by removing dead skin cells from lips. Not only does this reveal softer-feeling skin cells, but it can also help prepare lips for the smooth application of lip balm.

Apply lip balm that’s rich in natural waxes and essential oils that can help nourish tender skin. By combining your choice of Young Living lip balm, LBrianté lip gloss, lipstick, and essential oils, you’ll have a custom lip balm that’s as unique as it is hydrating!

Lavender Essential Oil - Young LivingExfoliating Lip Scrub

  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1–2 drops Lavender essential oil or another aromatic essential oil of your choice*

Combine brown sugar, honey, olive oil, and Lavender essential oil in a small glass container and mix until a paste is formed. To use, gently rub onto lips in a circular motion, and then wipe or rinse off. Store in an airtight container.

*We strongly recommend NOT using any citrus essential oils or blends, which could be too harsh on exfoliated skin.

Tinted Lip Balm

  • Young Living Lip BalmsOne tube of Young Living lip balm (Lavender, Grapefruit, or Cinnamint)
  • One tube of LBrianté lip gloss
  • One-quarter tube of your favorite shade of red or pink lipstick
  • 1–2 drops Lavender essential oil or another aromatic essential oil of your choice
  • 1–2 small, airtight glass containers

Twist out the tube of lip balm into a small stainless steel or glass bowl. Place the stainless steel bowl over a small amount of water in a double boiler and heat over low on your stovetop until the lip balm is melted. Remove from heat and add the gloss side of your preferred LBrianté gloss, lipstick, and additional essential oils. Combine well, pour into small glass containers, and then let cool completely in the fridge before using.

The Young Living lip balm will add nourishing hydration; LBrianté will add just a hint of shine; and your choice of lipstick will give it just the right amount of translucent color.

Would lemongrass EO be good in lip balm?

  • Deanne

Within how many days should the lip scrub be used? How long will it last if stored in an airtight container? Thank you!

    • Hi Deanne, We would recommend using the lip scrub within the first few days of making it. Thanks for stopping by!

  • YL Lavender Lip balm is my favorite. It’s great because it isn’t minty!

  • Hanna

What other oils would be good to use other than the Lavender?

    • Hi Hanna, Other floral essential oils such as Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, or Rose would be great options too, but experiment to find your own favorites!

I have tried many lip scrubs, expensive to inexpensive. Of course being an oiler, I wanted to use something where I can pronounce the ingredients. I made this today and put it in an empty metal Rose Bud Salve container (didn’t have a little glass container). Fabulous is the word that comes to mind to describe it and licking my lips is safe now. Love my oils for all they do.

Can the exfoliating Lip scrub recipe be used anywhere on the body or face?

    • Young Living

Thanks for your question, Cyd. The Exfoliating Lip Scrub recipe in this post was specifically designed to be used on the lips, but it can also be used on the body if you’d like. For your face, we’d recommend giving our Satin Facial Scrub a try instead. We’d love to hear how it works out for you. Thanks again for stopping by!

I have been trying to get smoother lips for weeks and none of the things I had tried worked. After coming across the post I decided to give it a try. I love the fact that I could “lick my lips clean” after applying the exfoliate because all of the ingredients are non-toxic. Thanks for recipe! I now start off my day with nice smooth lips!

  • I love using homemade exfoliating scrubs on my whole body, and particularly enjoy honey as an ingredient to the scrubs, but never considered using it on my lips. Thanks for the easy DIY recipe!

  • Melissa

I have made several different lip scrubs with my YLEO’s, my lips love me for it!

  • I know we are not advised to put citrus on exposed skin as those oils are photo sensitive, I am perplexed about the Grapefruit lip balm as it is citrus???? Can U explain please?

    • Young Living

Hi Kaiya! Research by the IFRA (International Fragrance Research Association) shows that the level of grapefruit essential oil included in the Grapefruit Lip Balm should pose no photosensitivity issues. To support this research, Young Living performed in-house photosensitivity testing. Hope this helps!

How often should the lip scrub be used?

    • Young Living

Hi Caitlin! We’d suggest 1-2 times per week.

  • Shannon Bazen

I love my Lavender lip balm

  • Donna English

I love them all but right now I’m loving the Grapefruit that I am using!

  • Lisa Pycior

    cinnamint

  • Nancy

I think I will try the lavender. I have been looking for a lip balm that is natural. I am new to Young Living, so I have not seen all the products or been able to try all the ones I want. I love this Idea though. Will save it in my favorites! :))

How do you “add in” the gloss side of your preferred LeBriante gloss?

    • Young Living

Hi Carol! We recommend dipping the LBriante wand into the gloss, then wiping the gloss onto a wooden popsicle stick or toothpick, then adding to the rest of the DIY lip balm mix. Hope this helps!

  • Megan

I love love love the cinnamint! I’m so going to try this as my lip balms just arrived this week! Thanks YL!

    I love the Lavender
