For instance, did you know that your body contains\u00a0more water than any other substance? Or that\u00a0every system in your body\u00a0needs it to function properly?<\/p>\n<p>Water gets rid of waste, regulates body temperature, provides cushioning for joints, and can protect sensitive tissue\u2014along with a sea of other benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Check out these super easy tips to help you make drinking water a healthy habit.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff99cc\">How much water should you drink?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You may have heard that drinking just under 2 litres of water a day is standard, but according to the\u00a0National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines, you should be drinking a little more.<\/p>\n<p>The adequate intake (AI) recommends around 2.8 litres for women over the age of 19 and 3.9 litres for men over the age of 19.\u00a0<strong>When you\u2019re figuring out how much water to drink, consider these factors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Age: <\/strong>Children need less water, while the elderly need more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Activity level: <\/strong>Whether you\u2019re running a 5K or a marathon, athletes lose more water through perspiration. It\u2019s important to refuel before, during, and after workouts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pregnancy\/breastfeeding: <\/strong>Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should\u00a0increase water consumption.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climate: <\/strong>While you\u2019re soaking up the sun, make sure to replenish your fluids more often.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Health: <\/strong>When you\u2019re experiencing symptoms of illness like vomiting or fever, make sure to increase your water to stay hydrated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When in doubt,\u00a0listen to your body. Studies show that humans feel thirst before any negative effects of dehydration begin. So\u00a0<strong>when you\u2019re thirsty, drink up!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>YL tip<\/strong>:\u00a0The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine specify that the\u00a0<em>total\u00a0<\/em>water intake from the above statistics includes\u00a0<strong>\u201cdrinking water, water in beverages, and water that is part of food.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0This is great news for those of us working on better drinking habits! We get 19% of the recommended water consumption from sources beyond our water bottles!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff99cc\">Why you need water<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Water is essential for your organs, tissues, and cells.\u00a0<strong>Here\u2019s what water does for your body:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeps your\u00a0body temperature within a normal range.<\/li>\n<li>Smooths and softens your\u00a0joints.<\/li>\n<li>Protects your spine.<\/li>\n<li>Helps\u00a0eliminate waste through\u00a0urine, sweat, and bowel movements.<\/li>\n<li>Helps sustain endurance\u00a0when working out.<\/li>\n<li>Quickens your\u00a0brain function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff99cc\">Can I have too much water?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The answer is yes, but it\u2019s very rare. Hyponatremia\u2014when you drink so much water in a short amount of time that it throws off the balance of sodium in your blood\u2014can happen if you exercise vigorously for a long period of time and then drink a lot of water very quickly. However, you can keep your post-workout hydration covered by choosing beverages packed with electrolytes to keep the balance in check!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff99cc\">Tips for staying hydrated<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep a water bottle close by.<\/li>\n<li>Skip sugary drinks. Although you\u2019re getting fluid from juice, soda, or alcohol, water is the best source for hydration.<\/li>\n<li>Drink a glass of water before and during each meal.<\/li>\n<li>Hydrate before, during, and after sweating it out at the gym.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our best tip for daily hydration?
