Get Winter Ready with Essential Oils

2 21/09/2020 - ESSENTIAL OILS, Using Essential Oils

The lead up to Winter sees our bodies slowly change with declining sunshine and less exercise as we take to the couch and consume more stodge. Before we know it, our good Summer habits have gone. Long walks, days in the park or on the beach and superfood salads slip away from us. This year join us in our determination to make good preparations for the colder, shorter days in Europe to come.

What Essential Oils are Good for Winter?Cedarwood Essential Oil 15 ml bottle picture

Either used on our skin directly, or diffused, there are many oils which come into their own in the cooler months. In general, many seek soothing, warming and comforting oils that brighten the skin and bring a cossetting atmosphere to a room. Our tips for Winter oils:

  • Cedarwood essential oil’s woody, warm, balsamic aroma creates a relaxing, calming, and comforting atmosphere when diffused.
  • Frankincense goes with season, it’s a rich oil, you’ll only need a few drops to enhance your outlook.
  • Geranium is a perennial favourite and has a wonderfully uplifting, calming and flowery scent.
  • Orange is not to be overlooked, though we’re so familiar with it. It’s bright, rich and cheering.
  • Peppermint brings joy and the aroma can bring feelings of relief. Enjoy the tingle.
  • Three Wise Men essential oil always raises a smile, with its special blend including Sandalwood, and the rich notes of Frankincense and Myrrh.

Which Essential Oils are Warming?

Warming essential oils work wonders throughout the cooler months. Diffuse them, add to a hot bath or enjoy in a massage. We recommend Black Pepper, Rosemary and Marjoram. You may also like Juniper, Clove and Ginger.

What about a Massage?Young Living Stress Away Essential Oil Blend

The internet is full of research pointing to several strong benefits of massage. Why not turn your home into a spa this Winter and enjoy a relaxing massage and reap all its benefits?

Our oils are used daily across the world in massage. The wonderful thing is that you can add the oils or blend of your choice (or your own DIY blend) into your massage oil. Don’t forget Young Living has plain carrier oil you can purchase too.

How can I relax more during cold winter months?

If a long hot bath is your top choice for Winter relaxation, then adding oils will make that moment so much more luxurious. Young Living bath bombs are no ordinary bath time treat. You can choose from Lavender Calming Bath Bombs and our Stress Away variety with vanilla and lime.
If you’re short on time, drop a steamer into the shower. You’ll think you’re in a top-notch spa. Again, we have two varieties, Eucalyptus/Peppermint and Citrus Fresh®.

Exercise more after lockdown

Many of us are out of lockdown and can now exercise. How to boost your exercise regime?

Did you know exercise can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer by up to 50% and lower your risk of early death by up to 30%? It’s free, easy to take, has an immediate effect and you don’t need a GP to get some. Well that’s what the UK’s NHS says anyway, and who are we to argue?

If you feel fatigue setting in before your workout, try creating your own essential oil blends to energise you. Before stretching your legs and arms, mix 2 drops of Ginger, Cinnamon Bark, and Clove essential oils into 15 ml of your favourite moisturising lotion and generously apply it topically to warm up your muscles. You’ll find that the sensation and aromatic experience make it ideal to use before bed to massage the muscles too.

What about an Autumn Clean?

How come we always kill ourselves over a ‘Spring Clean’? Every season change is a great time to have a declutter and a deeper clean than the usual weekly wipe over. If you haven’t come across her work, search for Marie Kondo and her best-selling book, ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying’. She writes realistically about what to keep and what to give away. Also life-changing (well, we think so anyway!), is our Thieves® range of home care products. We call it the power of Thieves. The name was inspired by the legend of four 15th century French thieves who concocted a potion of clove, rosemary, vinegar and other botanicals they believed provided protection whilst they went about their nasty stealing. Turns out the French authorities were so impressed they offered lighter punishment for the gang, in exchange for the recipe of their guardian-angel potion! Our range has cleaning power and an irresistibly spicy scent.

Whatever plans you have for self-care this Autumn and Winter, keep on sharing them with us and we’ll keep on enhancing yourself, your home and family as best we can!
