Lemon and Lemon Vitality ™ essential oils are superheroes in the kitchen. They can combat an endless variety of kitchen catastrophes with their bright, freshening power. We’ve put together these all too familiar situations to help you see just how they can save the day:
Beat bad smells
You’ve just arrived home from a weeklong family trip. You open the door from the garage and are met with the aroma of low tide on a 98-degree day in New Jersey. The culprit? That tuna casserole you threw in the trash bin and forgot to take outside before you left. Before you reach for the kerosene and matches (the house is obviously doomed at this point), you remember the bottle of Lemon essential oil you keep next to the sink. You take the trash out, open the windows, and add a few Lemon-saturated cotton balls to the bottom of the bin. Not only is the smell gone, but now you’re not sure if you’re in a kitchen or a blossoming orchard of lemon trees.
Choose the right refreshment
On a hot summer night, nothing sounds better than a refreshing cold treat. In the freezer, you have a carton of your favorite tropical-fusion ice cream, but you also have all the ingredients to make homemade fro-yo that will be a lot kinder to your waistline and wellness. You combine frozen coconut yogurt, mangos, oranges, a kiss of honey, and a couple drops of Lemon Vitality in a blender, and in no time, you have a warm-weather treat you can feel great about.
Brighten your mood
It’s 7 a.m. on a rainy Monday. You’re in the kitchen pulling out bowls and spoons for cereal, and you hear the kids running around upstairs fighting over who knows what. You didn’t get to bed until way too late last night because you had to finish the last episode of your favorite show, and you’re filled with regret. You’re tempted to just walk upstairs, hop back into bed, and let the children fend for themselves. As a final, last-ditch effort, you add a few drops of Lemon essential oil to your diffuser. You pause and inhale slowly and deeply. A warm, bright aroma fills your senses. You feel your spirits rise, and you’re able to greet your kiddos with a smile (or at least not a scowl).
Save your sink
The kitchen sink is doing that thing again. The first time you smelled it, you checked to make sure the family hamster was safe in its cage because it smelled liked something had died. Then you realized—though hard to believe—it was just the smell of normal food buildup. Luckily, you know exactly how to tackle this without any bleach or other harsh chemicals: first baking soda, then vinegar, rinse it all down with water, and finish with a dozen drops of pure Lemon essential oil. In less than five minutes, that putrid smell is replaced with the lovely, fresh scent of pure lemons!
Create divine desserts
Your in-laws are coming over for dinner for the first time tonight. You’ve spent the last four hours getting everything prepped for the perfect dinner, and now you’re trying to decide what to make for dessert. You want to finish the night off with a confection to remember, one that will lock in that great in-law reputation for good. You pull out your secret weapon, Lemon Vitality essential oil, and go on to make the most vibrant and flavorful lemon pound cake that you—or any of your guests—have ever tasted. Who knew you could win brownie points with lemon cake?
Special thanks to Kristina Barbee for her help with this post.
Today I made a spray bottle with distilled water (1.75oz) with 12 drops of lemon oil and cleaned my counters, wood tables, microwave, frig, etc. works wonderfully and smells so good. (I only had a 2oz glass bottle, so now I must buy a bigger glass bottle) This will now be my go to cleaner.
Yesterday, I added a little lemon vitality and lime vitality to the salmon I used in salmon fried rice. It was delightful, and nice to know I can use it when I don’t have lemons on hand.
I add lemon oil to my daily fruit salad, to the vinegrette for my green salads, wherever the taste of lemon is needed. Makes dips and spreads for sandwiches like mayonaise a real treat. Love it Anita
Great idea for the sink. Will have to try it.
May i know what is the difference between Lemon and Lemon Vitality? Can both be ingested? I am planning to add a few drops to my drinking water in the morning. Can both do it?

Use lemon oil for all kinds of things, but especially with peppermint on hot days. I put a few drops of each in a thermos when I go horse bike riding or play tennis and it keeps me refreshed and cool.
Could I use the lemon vitality oil for a replacer of lemon juice, that is needed in a cheese cake?
Hello Mary. You can use the Lemon Vitality as a additive, but if the recipe requires the extra liquid of the lemon juice for consistency of the cheesecake, then I would suggest still using the lemon juice. However, I would add drops of Lemon Vitality for an extra punch. Hope that helps!
I love using lemon oil to help with my son’s allergies!! Young living quality is like no other!!
I Love Lemon in my water, first in the morning for a refreshing wake up and energizing. Later in the day for a more refreshing pick me up! I actually drink less coffee, more water with lemon!! I did add a drop in my coffee one morning, and surprised it was pretty good!
Is there a recipe for the pound cake using the YL lemon oil?
Hey Glenda! We do not personally have one, but offered up the idea of making a lemon pound cake using Lemon Vitality. We suggest finding a recipe you love and adding the Lemon Vitality to the cake. Have fun experimenting!
The first thing I do in the morning is drink a glass of water with a few drops of lemon oil. I no longer need coffee in the morning. Yay!
My friend told me about these oils. It would be great to get samples!
LOOOve it in the diffuser and in water!!! <3
thanks for the tips, need to try the lemon on the cotton balls as soon as I get home, love the tip on how to clean the sinks!! I love young living!
I’m new to all this, but here’s to the free lemon!
My favorite uses for lemon are: the garbage disposal, helping with sticky surfaces and adding to thieves in the diffuser! Can’t live w/o it!

I love rubbing lemon eo on my hands after cutting onions to erase the smell.
I have been using Lemon essential oil to clean my toilet! I just pour baking soda in the toilet, scrub it with the toilet brush, flush, then I drop about 12-15 drops of lemon essential oil on it and swirl it around with the toilet brush. Who needs toxic chemicals when you have 100% pure therapeutic Lemon essential oil!
I carry YL lemon vitality essential oil in my purse and add a couple of drops to my sparkling mineral water when dining out. So refreshing!
I love sharing it as well!
Ahhhh…lemon! A must have! In my water, diffuser, foods, so many uses. Lemon brightens my day!
Lemon cookies! SOOO yummy. Oh and taking off temporary tattoos on my kids skin. Cookies and that.
It’s a bit hard to hit a deadline of April 3 when the email didn’t come until April 8. 🙁

I simply love to diffuse this amazing oil to deodorize the living room in the morning. There is nothing better than sipping on my morning cup of tea, with a fresh clean smell of citrus lemon. #fabuousfreshlemon
Love, love, love your lemon! My water consumption has gone way up – just a couple of drops of lemon in my water bottle has made the difference.
I LOVE lemon oil!!! Oddly I got the email TODAY (Friday)…AFTER the contest was OVER (little disappointing).
