When my kitchen was overrun with fruit flies, I went bat-CRAZY and sprayed the cleaner all over my kitchen – it was DRIPPING down my cabinets and my counters were soaked! I didn’t care if it got on dishes or food or anything because it’s totally safe. IT WORKED!!!

  • Rene

I purchased glass spray bottles to use for my Thieves cleaner. The spray tube is still plastic though. Can I leave it in the bottle?

    • Hi Rene, It would be fine to store the mixture in the cleaner, however, we recommend that any plastic parts not be in contact for more than a few days due to the essential oils. We recommend storing the mixture in the glass container and connecting the sprayer as needed. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Katie Murdoch

I use this cleaner around my child all the time. I do have someone claiming that it is unsafe though, how am I supposed to respond?

    • Hi Katie, Thieves Household Cleaner is safe around adults, pets and children. If you have further concerns, we recommend reviewing the product with your child’s pediatrician for targeted advice. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Jay

“Can this be used to clean surfaces my infant eats off of (I.e. High chair trays, etc)?”

    • Hi Jay, surfaces can be cleansed with this product which may come into contact with food, but which will not saturate the food. You can use this product on your high chair tray, but may want to rinse off after. Thanks for stopping by!

Should Thieves oil and/or cleaning products be mixed in a glass bottle or is plastic okay?

    • Young Living

Hello Sarah, We do not recommend storing undiluted essential oils in plastic containers. Using essential oils and essential oil products safely in conjunction with plastic containers depends highly on the type of plastic, the concentration of essential oils, and the amount of time the oils are stored in the container or the amount of time the essential oils come in contact with the plastic parts. We feel that it is better to avoid adding essential oils to plastic contains whenever possible. Using a PETE or PP plastic bottle can help, but we recommend switching to glass or stainless steel if you would like to use the same bottle for extended periods of time. Thanks for stopping by!

      • Kathy

This doesn’t make sense to me when the THHC concentrate comes in a plastic bottle, and we dilute it a LOT for use. If it’s diluted 30:1 surely a plastic spray bottle is OK.

        • Hi Kathy, Plastic used in packaging the products such as the Thieves® Household Cleaner is a high-end plastic that is formulated to be able to hold the essential oils and retain safety. The essential oils included in the products are not potent enough to damage the plastic packaging. Please be assured that we strive to use the best products and packaging based on the products and their use.

If you are going to store the Thieves Household Cleaner in a mixed solution, we recommend switching to glass or stainless steel for extended periods of time unless you are using a high end plastic that can withstand the essential oils.

      • Michele

Doesn’t it come in a plastic bottle?

        • Hi Michele, this is a great question! Plastic used in packaging the products such as the Thieves® Household Cleaner is a high-end plastic that is formulated to be able to hold the essential oils and retain safety. The essential oils included in the products are not potent enough to damage the plastic packaging. Please be assured that we strive to use the best products and packaging based on the products and their use. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Laura Brennan

Does Thieves cleaner need to sit on a surface for at least 10 minutes to properly disinfect, or does it kill bacteria instantly? Thanks so much!

    • Young Living

Hi Laura, Thanks for stopping by it is not necessary to let this product sit on a surface for a specific amount of time. However, you may let the cleaner sit on the surface depending on your own personal preferences and the surface that is being cleaned.

      • Tama Weltzin

Can you confirm that the Thieves cleaner kills bacteria? Or is it more of a refreshing/surface cleanser? Thanks.

  • Bran

I’m new to YL. Household cleaner ultra-concentrated to keep away from you skin?? Is that before diluted??

    • Young Living

Hi Bran, Theives® Household Cleaner is formulated for non-poures surfaces. Some of the ingredients can cause dryness especially to those with sensitive skin. This is true for before dilution and after. There for we have added this warning.

  • Heidi

I use Theives Household Cleaner in my shower and it seems to be eating away at the grout. Should I be diluting it more? I really do love using no chemicals!

    • Young Living

Hi Heidi, We would recommend using the General cleaner dilution. The dilution instructions are noted on the back of the product bottle. It is one part solution for each: 30 part water to 1 cap.

  • Cindy

Can you use it to brighten the grout on my bathroom floor? Tired of scrubbing with a toothbrush and not seeing much of a difference.

    • Young Living

Hi Cindy, If the Thieves® Household Cleaner is used according to the label directions and dilution ratios there should be no negative effects from using it on the bathroom floor. We recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before cleaning all the floor. Thanks for stopping by.

    • Michelle Skoczek

We used it on dingy grout by making a paste with THHC and baking soda – perfecto!!

  • Heather Reining

I was curious if the thieves household cleaner can be used in a diffuser?

    • Young Living

Hi Heather, We would not recommend using the Thieves® Household Cleaner in any manner other than its intended purpose. We advised to always follow label direction.

  • Andrea N.

I have a question about Thieves cleaner. I am new the YL, and so far I love it! I recently used Thieves cleaner to disinfect a water cooler at work. I might have used a bit to much, but have rinsed out the system several times with at least 7 gallons of water or more. I can still smell Thieves in the water, and as I taste tested a bit of it, I can also detect a hint of it, but just barely. Should I be worried? Do you think it is safe to go ahead and drink?

    • Young Living

Hi Andrea, If any residue is remaining, we anticipate it being heavily diluted and should therefore have no adverse affects. We suggest reviewing the manual or contacting the manufacturer of the water cooler for alternative cleaning solutions.

  • Allie W

Just wanting to know if Thieves Household Cleaner is recommended for cleaning bamboo flooring. TIA!

    • Young Living

Hi Allie, We recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before cleaning the entire floor. You may also want to contact the manufacturer for any information on the finish that may interact negatively with Thieves Household Cleaner. If the surface appears porous, we would encourage you to use another product that may be better suited to the surface. Thanks for stopping by with your question!

  • Mary Spahn

If the household cleaner was to be used in a state regulated day care center what would be the contact time? For example: The diaper changing area was cleaned with Thieves Cleaner, how long would they have to wait before changing another diaper?

    • Young Living

Hi Mary, The FTC monitors unfair and/or deceptive claims in connection with the advertising and promotion of products (this includes household products/cleaners). We are unable to make antimicrobial or disinfectant claims or provide laboratory testing results on this subject as these claims have not been vetted using FTC procedure. We are also unable to provide research information or documentation regarding the effectiveness rate of the product. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

  • Jessica

Can the thieves glass cleaner be used on tinted windows as well? Can’t seem to find anything regarding tinted windows. Thanks!

    • Young Living

Hi Jessica, We suggest diluting according to the label and doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before using the Thieves® Household Cleaner on the entire window. If the surface appears porous we would encourage you to use a different product that may be better suited to the surface. Thanks for stopping by with your question!

  • Priscilla

I understand this cleaner is safe to use around kids, but what if my child accidentally ingested it? I want to completely rid my home of dangerous cleaners.

    • Young Living

Hi Priscilla, It is recommended to keep this product out of reach of children. However, if a child or infant swallows an essential oil, administer milk, Agave, honey or other safe, oil-soluble liquid. If dilution does not provide relief, contact your health care professional. Thanks for stopping by with your question.

Sprinkle baking soda on bottom of oven then pour mixture of oils/vinegar, let bubble up and set a few minutes. Wipe up and the oven is cleaned. No nasty odors.

  • Janie

    • Young Living

Hi Janie, Great question. We suggest using purified or distilled water to ensure that the water is optimal for cleaning. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Ellen D

I’ve had someone ask if her pine kitchen cabinets can be cleaned with THC. They are old & not sealed. Will THC mixed with water hurt the cabinets or should she use THC with Olive Oil to degrease the cabinets?
    Thank you!

    • Young Living

Hi Ellen, If the Thieves® Household Cleaner is used according to the label directions and dilution ratios there should be no negative effects from using it on the wood cabinets. We recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before cleaning all the cabinets.

      • Debbie Lindquist

I use it on my wood floors with the terry cloth dry mop. The recipe is adapted from my grandmother’s recipe to clean her floors. It cleans great and leaves no residue.
Mix ingredients in 32 oz spray in the order given
        15-18 oz Distilled Water
        1/8 cup Distilled White Vinegar
        2-4 Tablespoons Grapeseed Oil
        1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner
        5 drops YL Lemon Oil
Shake before each use. Spray a small area of floor then mop it up and repeat on the next section.

    • Young Living

Hi Leah, We recommend doing a small spot test in an inconspicuous location before using the product on the entire surface, especially for stone floors. If the surface appears porous we would encourage the use of another product that may be better suited to the surface. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
