Young Living, D. Gary Young Foundation Donate $50K for Haiti Relief
February 25, 2010
Corporate and international offices, employees and Independent Distributors come together to help earthquake-ravaged nation.
SALT LAKE CITY—February 25, 2010—On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, the worst earthquake in 200 years struck the island nation of Haiti, leaving utter decimation in its wake—along with an immediate need for worldwide support of the Haitian people. In order to provide much-needed funds, Utah-based Young Living Essential Oils partnered with The D. Gary Young Foundation: Young Living Outreach in a joint effort that lead to the donation of more than $50,000 for relief aid.
Donations poured in from local Young Living employees, Young Living distributors, as well as from Young Living corporate and international offices in Australia, Europe, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom. All monetary donations were passed on to the Healing Hands for Haiti International organization, where 100 percent of all contributions support immediate earthquake relief. Because the people of Haiti have no clean water to drink, no electricity, and hospitals and aid centers have been severely damaged or destroyed entirely, these donations are critical to earthquake survivors.
Donations of Young Living products were also sent to Haiti with experienced teams of medical workers, translators and other volunteers. Products contributed included peppermint and basil essential oils, which relief workers said were the only relief from the smell of decay in the streets. Wolfberry Crisp™ Bars, Manna Bars and NingXia Red® were handed out to people who hadn’t had anything to eat or drink for days. These products also provided food to dedicated relief workers. Young Living distributors were among the volunteers, and were able to use Young Living essential oils to help calm earthquake victims.
According to www.healinghandsforhaiti.org, the response to this disaster was immediate: “A makeshift clinic [in Port-au-Prince] with power and water was immediately set up on our property and opened to the public the next day; 175 patients were treated. Our team will continue to add medical staff from the Utah County Hospital group and expand services of this clinic as numbers are expected to grow daily and will include patients with many disabilities.”
Young Living CEO, Doug Nelson, was overwhelmed by the spirit of giving that poured in following this terrible tragedy. “It is important for all of us who have so much to reach out and help those in need,” he said. “As a company, we want to do everything we can to provide support and relief from world disasters, such as the earthquake in Haiti. The Young Living family truly came together for the greater good when it mattered the most, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.”
