Finca Botanica Aromatica

postcard_ecuadorGary Young chose Guayaquil, Ecuador, as the location for Young Living’s newest farm, Finca Botanica Aromatica. With nearly 2,000 acres, the farm’s fertile ground and year-round growing season supports an abundance of Palo Santo trees and several new high-oil-content plants. This farm is also proving to be the perfect place to harvest oils that are in short supply throughout the world, such as helichrysum. Implementing the same high-quality standards for distilling essential oils that he developed in North America, Gary is examining the intriguing properties of local aromatic plants and how to sustain the long-term production of essential oils in Guayaquil.

History

ecuador-farm-smallGary purchased Finca Botanica Aromatica in 2005. The original plot of land was 2,010 acres. On it, Gary, his family, and more than 50 local Ecuadorians managed the growth and distillation of Palo Santo, lemongrass, Ruta graveolens, and many more local plants and herbs.

Gary, Mary, and their sons, Jacob and Josef, moved to Guayaquil in 2005, and have since expanded Finca Botanica Aromatica to include distillation of plants that Gary has discovered in the surrounding jungles, including popular Ocotea and Copaiba essential oils.

Discovering and Growing New Esssential Oils

Guayaquil’s fertile ground and year-round growing season makes Finca Botanica Aromatica and the surrounding area an ideal location for essential oil research. Gary Young ventures into the jungle on a regular basis to obtain plant samples. These samples are then analyzed for their beneficial constituents.

Once a Young Living® essential oil is discovered, the plant is either cultivated and distilled on the farm, or is sustainably harvested from existing supplies.

Activities

Every year Gary and a group of Young Living Independent Distributors travel to Guayaquil for the annual Amazon Adventure. Including guided hikes through the jungle, tours of Finca Botanica Aromatica’s fields and distillation facilities, essential oil trainings, and much more, the Amazon Adventure is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Tip—Natural Shower

“I dislike the chemicals in the shower sprays available in most stores. But it's Thieves® Household Cleaner to the rescue! I now dilute Thieves cleaner (according to the glass cleaner recommendation) in a spray bottle and confidently saturate my wet shower with the solution without holding my breath and racing out of the bathroom after spraying. It really works!”
